Yep! Porsche’s are very reliable in general, and in particular for a marquee sports car. Yes, they occasionally have their design issues; ie IMS bearing. But when treated right and taken care of, they are very durable engines and drive trains. Porsche knows that people are going to drive them a bit hard (that’s why they make them... to be driven) and some will track them. If they weren’t reliable then people wouldn’t buy them for those purposes. It’s the attainable ‘super car’ that can be daily driven.

I put 40k trouble free miles on my Macan and not a single trip other than maintenance was needed. I’ve had my 2nd hand CGTS for 2.5 years and no issues there either.

But also yes.... a $40 oil change ain’t gonna happen. :)

Whats the difference between an oil change on a Taco and a Porsche?? I do my own oil changes and is between $40-$50. Is it b/c you guys are going to the stealership for oil changes?

Yeah, oil change at the Toyota dealership is about $50-$60 bucks. Porsche dealer about $300.

Get a PPI (Pre purchase inspection) from an independent Porsche mechanic before any thought about buying it. The DME download will tell the life story as far as how it was driven as told by the over rev section of the download. If that goes well the PPI should identify problem areas as documented by photos that hopefully support any service records the PO has. Should have had at least 3 majors performed with one due in 15k. At 105k tie rod ends, shocks, motor and trans mounts, if not replaced will need attention....and of course the whole clutch, master cylinder, and shifter cables.

With the Metzger engine you’ll have one of the best motors that have been made by Porsche. It can take a lot of beating but if corresponding maintenance is not performed it can grenade just like any other neglected motor.

Be prepared for the Porsche Tax...everything is 5x what you think it should be. Don’t count on this model as an a stepping stone to a 997 or 991 unless you either have a ton of cash or can deal with a huge car payment (or both, from a relative view).

OK, now the good news....it’s quick, handles, and looks great (well except the front, but that’s one’s own opinion). I skipped the 996, went from a 993 to the 997 and I’m kicking myself for selling that 993. 997 was fantastic and the 991 is even better.

Only you will know what you want, so do what you think is best. Good Luck!

996TT has the Metzger engine....no IMS. Pretty bulletproof motor IF maintained.

Have to scan my 993, 964, and 911T photos some day. Bottom line is that the Porsche bug is worse than COVID, never goes away. And how’s that motor to stare at with your buddies....fail.

Sold my 2010 Porsche Cayenne GTS and got a 2020 TRD Pro. The Cayenne is considered an SUV so it could haul stuff, but where it really shined was on road, for a big vehicle it was fast and handled great. It was actually a pretty decent off roader with lockers all around, transfer case with a low range, air suspension with an off road mode, of course the 21" wheels and on road tires would need to be changed out and it lacked skid plates, but it was fun as heck to drive. The killer was maintenance. Brakes/tires go quick (I was getting around 20K out of the tires) and if anything broke it was $$$$$$. Miss my Cayenne but I love my Tacoma.

My 930 Turbo had a dry sump that held about 10 quarts or so...of pretty expensive synthetic oil. That is a lot of oil for a small, 3.3 liter, six cylinder engine. You typically want an OEM oil filter also, which will cost more than the Fram from Pep Boys.

That flat-six is also not a terribly friendly to work on.

I use mobile 1 synthetic euro spec oil and OEM filter. Change oil myself, about as easy as anything else for around $100. I think intervals are like 10k, on my car at least.

well for one, a 911 takes likes twice the amount of oil than a taco every time you perform an oil change...
another is the tacos oil change interval recommendation is less than half that of a 911 (as per toyota and porsche recommendations)

    insurance will go up.
how much will 'the next guy' pay for it when you want to unload it?

personally, I'd run away just based on potential maintenance costs on a 105k mile, german engineered, vehicle..they ain't cheap.

    but that's just me.

    wallet sizes always vary..
    like thought processes.

    gl either way.
