When listed as 'backordered', manufacturing time for a new batch takes 1-3 weeks to fabricate before shipping for bare reinforcements and powder coated orders should allow an extra 2-3 weeks depending on the coaters' schedule.

No but I would say that it's not necessary. This one is one piece and it hasn't moved in the years I've had it on

I have the aluminum one and have had no issues with it. I like the fact that if you scratch it (which mine has plenty of scratches) it doesn't rust. Plus even the aluminum one adds plenty of beef and weight to the tailgate

I'm this/close to finally snagging one of these. Does anyone have a nice shot of the 'over the top' portion of this unit. Planning on the coated aluminum.

realized in high heat this weekend just how flimsy the OEM plastic tailgate cap is. pushed me over the edge.

    Thanks @omegaman2 !

Is there a foam tape or similar that you run between the tailgate and the reinforcement?

    Man that looks clean...

The 3rd gen has a much stronger tailgate design than the previous gens so we only offer an aluminum version for the 3rd gen. Steel would be overkill for what is needed and just add unnecessary weight.

    Hope this helps!
