When I get my 2015 Tacoma to around 60 mph, the engine hood pops open. The second latch keeps it from coming completely open. The service department lubricated the latch and it was okay for a couple weeks. I went back on the hi-way and pop. This time they are going to replace the hood latch and reroute the release cable. I've had the truck less than a month and afraid to drive above 40 mph. Has anyone else had problems with the hood popping up?

Probably needs the hood bumpers adjusted down.

I had this issue with my 4runner, a little WD40 fixed it.

^ This. When I got mine, the hood release lever did not work. I reached under the dash and pulled the cable and that worked to pop the hood, but once I crawled under and took a look, the release cable was out of the bracket that holds it in place (and adds tension to the cable). Simple fix- slid it back into place and haven't has a problem since. Took me 10 seconds and beats a trip back to the dealer to have them take a look. Take your time and look at what could be in the way of the hood closing all the way. You might be able to fix it yourself.

Truck is fixed, the release cable was misrouted, keeping the latch from locking.

Anyone still having this problem? I’ve had this problem on and off now for well over two years. I’ve adjusted the hood bumpers, checked the cable tension, lubed the catch and any thing else that could possibly cause this problem. One thing I have noticed is that it happens when I’m doing 80 and over. I’m beginning to think it’s caused by a combination of high speed, wind resistance under the hood at those speeds and possibly road bounce especially those with concrete joints causing the latch to work loose. Aside from some sort of secondary latch system, does any one have a cure for this issue?

Other than a defective or out of alignment latch I have no idea. Has the dealer looked at it?

It would suck to have that fly open at 80 MPH. Safety problem.

    Maybe replace the hood latch.
