What are yall doing for off grid coffee?

I do like the french press coffee, but something about the sound and smell added to peculation of the coffee completes the circle.

I even use an electric percolator at home. in addition, I don't need to waste time or money on filters.

 

Depends on how many people for me. French press tastes the best but if there are a few people I go with the old school campfire pot. It finally broke but I had a plastic French press from REI that was way tougher than typical.

 

French press can be great when camping, but I'm not ashamed to admit I've also pulled out the Starbucks instant single serving coffee more than once.

I used a french press for a month on a trip and it just became annoying. Takes too much water to clean out the coffee grounds and becomes a hassle.

I’m still looking for whats best for me, but just my $.02

French Press can't match the flavor of pour-over coffee, IMO, and is a real pain in the ass to clean. My wife and I carry a

A little trick I learned in the army is I make little coffee bags with filters and gutted 550 cord. Just throw in the pot with boiling water till it's black. Probably terrible for you but nothing tastes better when you wake up shivering and everything is covered in morning dew

Edit: just ranting now, but first time I saw this was during a field training op where they had montagnard civilians prep meals for us and that's how they did coffee. Those people knew how to make the most amazing food out of nothing. I remember them picking chicken mushrooms and setting traps for rabbits and thinking no way I'm eating that. A few hours later and they had made some white rice with rabbit meat and the mushrooms and honestly hands down best meal I've ever had.

 

I used to do instant coffee bags - keep it simple.
The caffeine isn't really there though, more of a mental warm up.

Now I find more joy in the little things at camp since I'm usually alone. Tweaking my coffee etc.
Depending on my schedule I'll do an instant, or do a pour over. I bumped into a guy fishing the Klamath, that had a grinder and pour over system I really liked.

Some filters and a pour over pitcher.

This system sucks if I have new friends camping that rely on me doing most the cooking etc. I would use the perculator for that group setting.

 

LOL. By comparison sure, but it is less than $1 a cup and I'd much rather enjoy my coffee.
