My 2006 Tacoma was stolen and I got it back. The truck was stolen while running. Someone else got the truck and ruined the ignition system.

I put the used ignition switch in and put the key in all dash lights come on but the engine won't even turn over. Does the truck computer need to be reprogrammed to use the used ignition switch and key and transponder?

    Reserected from the dead.
I'm thinking that is not all your trouble. The truck should turn over with any key, it just wont start if the immobilizer does not recognize the key.

You don't tell us your truck details. Most 4 cylinder trucks did not have the immobilizer system. Which engine is yours?

Have you checked all the fuses?
    I’d start there first.

I didn't even think about checking the fuses! Someone tried to hotwire the truck and made a mess of the wires.

koditten its a V6 Prerunner. The windows aren't rolling up or down either.

I am going to check the fuses

You will need to have the Key reprogrammed.
It should at least crank - “I think”
Let us know how it goes for you.

Some success! I got the window rolled up and it is cranking now. The 50amp AM1 fuse 31 was blowing.
This is the original transponder kind of damaged if I had a spare key with the chip I would try to put this in.
I am trying to get the transponder that came on the Ignition Switch to work with my truck now. Do you think a locksmith could reprogram it?

OK, I guess that is the Ignition Immobilizer Antenna may be there all the same. Well, I will try and find a locksmith that can get my key to start the engine!

Get Techstream, it will allow you to reprogram the key/immobilizer to the truck

Just want to report back the truck is running!!! With no catalytic converters, the truck sounds like a race car! haha The locksmith cam over today pulled out a giant computer reprogrammed the key and it started right up! He wanted $70 I gave him $100 it was a good deal so happy! Next, I have to get wheels and rims and get it to the muffler shop but this is all coming together.

That and let's hope the seller of the used ignition "with key" isn't the same guy that stole the truck.

Okay, it's kind of crazy how it was stolen. I am behind power wrought iron gates and it's hot here in Bakersfield California! I went outside started the truck up and turned on The AC to cool the truck down and was inside making myself some lunch for later. Next, my neighbor is pounding on my door telling me someone was ramming the truck into the gate. They busted the gate down and were gone. I drove around for two hours looking for it and couldn't find it. About a month later the cops found it in the backyard of some guys house about 2 miles from me and the guy was like "I don't know how it got there" and that is as far as that went. At least, the cops called me and I had it towed to my house and not the impound yard that would have sucked. It was gone so long I bought another truck for work but I wanted my truck back so its time to get it going again! Also, it wasn't insured for theft so I have to pay for all the repairs. That is the story about that haha!
