My steel wheels are starting to look pretty ratty on my 2006, kinda wanted to go with some OEM takeoffs to make it look fresh. I figured either some 2nd gen or 3rd gen takeoffs. The paint on my wheels has really taken a beating. Never really had any qualms with my steel wheels, they look quite modern compared to older steel rims with gaudy hubcaps. I know aluminum wheels are technically easier to shatter, but the sidewalls are so big on trucks, I feel that's kinda a moot point.

I see the same steel takeoffs like I have going for next to nothing with basically brand new rubber... I see alloy takeoffs going for about that price, just without tires/TPMS.

Anyone with a 4 cyl gone from steel to alloy wheels and noticed a big difference with regards to power? I know aluminum is lighter, just wondering how big of a difference if any they make with our little 4 cylinders. I'd imagine choice of tire is more of a factor than wheel type, but just want to know what others think/have done. Stock tire size, by the way.

Steelies weigh maybe 32 lbs and 2nd gen trd off road around 25 lbs? Those are guesstimates, don't quote me.

7 lbs per wheel - you may notice a difference in the way it drives when you first pull away, but it will be so small you won't notice after that. Gas mileage will be a fraction of an mpg better, you will never make up the increased cost in fuel mileage savings.

Personally I would go with takeoffs for the looks and because I like to choose my own tires. But buying steelies with tires already installed is definitely the more sensible/economical thing to do.
