I just bought a camper shell for my Tacoma. I don't really like the way pickups look with camper shells, but I use my truck a lot in the winter for snowboarding, and need something to keep my extra gear in. It'll pretty much only be used in the winter weekends.

That said, I've been looking at buying a toolbox for the truck. I don't want to take the toolbox out every time I put the camper shell on, though. Does anyone know of any toolboxes that don't stick out past the sides of the bed? It doesn't have to be a huge box, I just want it for a few items I carry on me.

I've seen plenty of toolbox topics in the forums, but none about this specific topic. If I missed something on the search bar, let me know.

Appreciate the help in advance :D.

I ended up finding a Jobox that fit perfectly for my needs. http://www.amazon.com/Delta-Jobox-Welders-Box-30/dp/B000OGT7V8

Not really very water tight, but you can fix that up if need be. Just has a single pad lock in the front. Had to drill holes to secure it. And paint it, unless you like orange.

Only sits 12" high, so should be well under the bed frame and still open up enough to work with your shell, as well as hold enough items. A 1 gal container of antifreeze will fit standing up, to give you an idea on the height I was looking for.

The other option I was looking at was if I could find a similar sized ammo box, but I missed that opportunity as my local surplus shop is hit/miss for boxes. I found one that was about the right width and length, but was only 6" high. I tried, but ended up needing a bit more space and wasn't happy at all about the clamping method.

That Jobox is sort of what I'm looking for. If nothing else, I'll go that route.

I thought about the ammo box too. Someone hear had trouble making it water-proof though.

Didn't read this post prior to my last response. I have, but I don't like them that much. It's always an option though.
