Im going pick up a spare hood for my 20 tacoma tomorrow. The drive is 2 hrs there to pick up. My question is has anyone put a hood in their beds (5 ft)? If so how did you position it in the bed and how was it tied down? Another option would be to take my present hood off and put on the "new" hood when I buy it, but I'm unsure about driving 2 hrs with no hood. Thanks for any suggestions.

I’d suggest using ratchet straps. They are very inexpensive at Harbor Freight.

Thanks for the replies. I have a sport and am getting a great deal on a flat hood. Plan to wrap the flat hood with vinyl.

It fits in the bed laying flat, no problem. Line the bed with a blanket and use tie downs.

good luck, and I’m going off of memory but I had no issues transporting mine in the bed, with a tonneau cover.

Go get some split pool noodles. Then you put the noodles on all 4 edges and extra on the corners. This will protect it while is vibrates in the bed.

It is illegal to drive with no hood (atleast around here), so you risk getting pulled over if you go that route. Like others said it should be easy to transport in the bed, just make sure you have something to protect it and to tie it down with.

This is what I did with no problems. Drove from South Carolina to Alabama to get my sport hood. Installed the sport hood there and put my offroad hood in the bed and drove back home with no damages.

Thanks everyone for the great input. I transported the hood in the back of my truck with moving blankets and styrofoam padding. Used tie downs and it all worked great.

    Sorry...just being nosy.

Its actually the flat hood I purchased. I prefer the visibility of the flat hood. Gonna put my scooped hood in storage.
