Well my first was an 86, 4 cylinder 5 speed stick, regular cab. Moved up to an extended cab in 92. Bought a 96 extended cab because I wanted to move up to a 6 cylinder & at the time I was doing a lot of city driving so I wanted an automatic trans. Then I purchased a 2002 extended cab, 6 cylinder, SR5, automatic trans just because. Then I moved up to a 2009 and now I am currently driving a 2015 double cab TRD Sport. Other than normal maintenance, I have never had to put a dime into any of the Tacoma's I have owned and always received top dollar for all my former Tacoma's.

Long story short. Reliability and resale value = a loyal return customer.

I didn't/ don't need a full size truck, I knew I was going to be putting at least 50 miles on it a day so I wanted something reliable and have decent resale even at higher miles, I looked at the Colorado and I just wasn't as impressed as I was with the Tacoma.

Came from a 2006 Taco to my 2016. The 16 was my first new car. The updated interior and drivetrain were attractive to me, as was the fact that the chassis was virtually unchanged, so I already knew my way around it.

I cross shopped a Subaru Outback at the time. I was living in an apartment and only use I had for a truck was camping, which the Outback could do OK for less money. Luckily, I realized i was not going to be an apartment dweller for long, got the 2016 and the rest is history.

I also considered a Tundra and Power Wagon. Between the 2, I ultimately decided reliability was more important than capability, so it was Tundra vs Tacoma. Offroading is more important to me than hauling, so the Tacoma won.

I like Toyota as a company, with an eye on evolution and not revolution. Making one product incrementally better until it is very finely tuned. I know this is not popular with reviews like JD Power and Consumer Reports because they don't have the biggest touch screen or best gas mileage. If there was such a regular review conducted 10 years after owning a car, I'm sure Toyota would be on top.

Reliability, resale value (even though I plan to drive it into the ground) , aftermarket support, it’s the best midsize truck for how long?

when I finally give my 14 dcsb to my son I will for sure be buying another Toyota

    1) Despite what review rags say, it IS the most reliable rig out there.

    2) As a stock rig, its more capable than the rest.

    3) I don't anticipate ever selling my rig, but if my hand is forced, it will command top dollar.

    4) The Yoyota community, much like the Jeep community, support each other. Sometimes to a fault, but we treat at each lother like family, and yes, that includes the bickering.

    5) I've actually gained some solid friendships from this community. If it weren't for my Yota family. I would have gone stir crazy during this covid19 fiasco. These same people have encouraged me to get back to my childhood roots with camping and exploring.

I bought mine for the reliability and resale value. Also, lots of Mod options. I didnt want another Frontier and sure as heck not a Ridgeline, GM or Ford product.

Needed a "do everything" kind of vehicle. that was reliable and easy enough to live with. Needed hauling capabilities, potential towing, and offroad ability should the situation arrive. Yet I still wanted a manual

My main considerations were manual transmission, reliability, and high ground clearance (for better mobility in urban flash flood situations.)
