I've inherited a 70's MG convertible that needs to travel from Ohio to North Carolina.

Can anyone recommend a company for vehicle delivery, and one that provides enclosed service? Is it normal for payment to be taken up front?

Also, interested if anyone has been in a similar situation with an inherited vehicle like this that will never be a daily driver. I can keep it in our garage but it will a massive space suck and I don't know how often I'll drive it. My dad considered selling it before he passed away and I couldn't bear the thought because he treasured it so much and having it would be like keeping a close memory of him. On the other hand, as I said I won't use it much, and if any repairs are required parts are very expensive. Luckily he kept it in top condition. I might even have to pay for storage because it may be tough to keep in the garage. I really couldn't justify that expense.

Sometimes I wish I had told him to sell it and my mom would have had all the more cash (she's in great shape financially so it's not that). Maybe that would've upset him though. Maybe it was a comfort to him knowing it would be passed down to me.

Anyway, didn't really mean to type all that but guess it's been weighing on my mind. Appreciate any advice on the shipping company.

Reliable Carriers is probably the premiere enclosed transport carrier - there is also Horseless Carriage and others out there.

Or you could rent / borrow an open trailer and haul it down with your Tacoma. MG'S are pretty light...

Have you ever used either one?

Hauling it on a trailer was my first thought of course. I just don’t want to take a chance on all the various things that could happen to it out in the open on the road for 700 miles.

I had my brothers Acura MDX sent from NC to NY it took about 3 days. I think most transport companies are hired through brokers or something similar. it cost 575 or something like that i paid the broker 200 on the phone and the driver 375 cash. I figured this out after the fact but the car made to NY no issues.

Nope, but Reliable hauls million dollar supercars for Barrett Jackson - so I think it will be in good hands.

I used an open trailer hot shot carrier to move a truck from Florida to Ohio. The truck was a beater, so I wasn't that worried about it. It was about $800.

Wow that’s about half the price my mom was quoted when she looked into this a while back. What company was it and how was your car physically transported?

Gotcha. Still a good comparison for the price.

I googled vehicle transporters and got 4 quotes and went with the middle one. Reliable carriers was the highest priced one.

Reliable, premier, inter city are all top notch transporters with enclosed vans. They transport classic and high end exotics all the time. Make sure the car is insured before you have it moved. Hagerty is a good company that I use for classic car insurance. It’s relatively inexpensive to boot. Use the value research tools on their website to determine how much insurance you need - they are agreed value policies. The company can also give guidance in transportation help too.
