While not a “specific” LT topic, I do have a specific LT question. Anyone use Flex Seal in their trucks? Inner fenders, rockers, bumpers anything? How does it hold up? Hold up to sun/UV? Pretty strong? I’m looking for something as a flexible, thick rock guard for my fiberglass bass sides. The lower front areas are just getting hammered, typical fiberglass bed side issue. I’ve “heard” Flex Seal is actually a decent product...

Supposedly they made a boat from glass with it and used screen and the roll on stuff to build a boat.... at least the commercial says so, and commercials are 100% truth.

    Yeah, right....

Never used it...yet, will try it at some point.

I use flex seal tape to replace frame plugs. Not used on anything structural.

I’m wanting the spray to mask off and spray high wear/rock hit areas. And general protective coating around the truck. I’m curious if it stays slightly flexible or if it eventually hardens up and if it does well under the sun or if it fades fast?

It hardens and is not that flexible when dried.

does it at least last? Is it a tough coating that would hold up?

Old thread, but for those who might land here with a search: I used Flex Seal in attempt to improve a shovel handle, and it was not abrasion resistant. Little pieces would slough off on my hands with friction from using the shovel to dig. Maybe the weather was too humid for it to cure right, but next time I would likely try a roll-on bedliner or rubberized undercarriage coat instead.

I used gorilla tape and flex seal spray on my front fenders where I cut for clearance and it worked great. Dries hard and not flexible but worked very well for my inner fenders, pretty much as hard as the stock plastic was.

Nice. How long did did it take to cure? What did the finish look like? Was it smooth or textured, flat or shiny? Would you say it is stronger or more durable than the ole’ plastidip? I wonder how it is for UV stability too.

Took about 3 hours or so to cure, the finished product is way stronger than plasti dip. I initially used plasti dip but it kept pealing so I switched to the flex spray. The finish has a very slight shine to it with a textured finish.

I used the gorilla tape to cover the hole after I cut out the plastic than covered the tape with flex seal. It’s Been over a year and it still looks new, mud or water hasn’t affected it at all. Haven’t had any rock chips either.

As a semi long term update, flex seal hasn’t held up that great to rock chips. I’d did okay for about 6 months. Then it seemed to dry out and it chips now. I’m not entirely unhappy with it considering the conditions. I will probably remark the areas and reapply it.

Why Flex Seal as opposed to a rubberized undercoat or a bedliner?

I’d love to see a comparison of all these products that seem to get used interchangeably on odd jobs. On the test list might be products by: POR-15, monstaliner, SEM, Wurst, Rustoleum professional, Flex Seal, ... ?

Any update? I’m about to try this. Was thinking of using flex seal tape but may do Gorilla Tape since it seems to have worked so well for you.

I cut some of my fender liner away and I’m pretty worried about water getting in there and causing rust issues.

It’s still holding strong, no issues yet. It still looks and feels like the day I applied it.
