2020 TRD Sport Factory Tonneau cover

I am debating whether to sell my 2016 Sport and buying a 2020 or 2021 but had a couple questions for folks that have already bought a 2020 Sport. Is there an option to purchase the factory tonneau cover as an add on? I added the Premium Sport Package and Advanced Technology Package. I did a build on the toyota website and it didnt list it as an option for the Sport. It was available for the Limited though. I have it on my 2016 and would like the same cover if I purchase a new truck. I don’t really care for the looks of the backflip.

 

I do know someone who traded in his 2017 Tacoma DC short Bed & kept his oem factory Bed cover & they swapped it out at the Dealer as long as you get the same Bed length it’s not hard FYi but if you want a new one I was told it can only be bought new if ordered online new so call the Dealer would be my guess enjoy your new Tacoma love mine

 

I was planning on selling the Tacoma now since my wife is working from home and don’t really need 2 vehicles. Then would purchase a 2021 early next year when she starts going back into the office. I also drive a company vehicle so both our vehicles sit in the garage most of the time. I put 30 miles a week on my truck, my wife put 40 miles total on her car since March.

 

Buying a new standalone OEM cover is not an option. Toyota does sell the individual parts for the cover.

 

Yeah, it has to be already configured as an option from the factory (was the same for my 2016), but wanted to know if it can be an option on a 2020/2021 Sport.

 

I have an OEM cover on my 20 Sport. The cover was not listed on the Toyota site. Selling dealer had no issue with requesting the cover when I ordered my truck.

Servco inventory mgr should be able to get you an answer.

Good luck FYi if you have the 5 in the Beginning of your vin means it’s built in Texas USA if it’s a 3 it’s built in Mexico & all 2021 models will be built in Mexico in case you didn’t know if that makes a Difference in selling it Now could make it more Collectible in the future as time go by.

 

Mine was built in Mexico so doesnt really matter on where it was built. My truck has been fine.

 

Wasn’t saying it in a bad way.some people care about it & when selling it not knowing about it or wanting a new one that is only built in Mexico could make a difference in value Good luck enjoy what ever truck you decide to own.

 

They add the Tonneau at the dealer level. Talk with who you ordered it through.

 

I am fine with a Mexican Taco but you are right, some people might not want to turn in their US Tex Mex Taco for a Authentic Mexican Taco!

 

In the past, you could only get the Factory Tonneau if it was installed at the factory and was on the factory sticker, not the dealer add on sticker. They didnt do it port installed unless you get a soft cover or aftermarket unless that has changed for the newer models.

 

I had added it to my build then went to the dealer and had it removed. He said no problem since they install it at the dealer. Maybe it has to be on the sticker to be warrantied for 3 years?

 

Maybe they removed it because they knew they could sell it to someone else.

 

Last time I tried to order one they told me at the stealership that it has to come from the factory when the truck is built . When u order the truck I think it’s just based on vin of what trucks get the cover . I wasn’t able to even order one for my truck .

 

Well yeah eventually I’m sure they will but you’re sounding like they have someone waiting to buy it. That wouldn’t be the case. I could add it back anytime I want to before it arrives.

 

They probably dont have a buyer already but they probably get so many inquiries about it, they know it wont sit for very long after its removed.
