I'm having trouble finding switched power in the engine bay, so far the only thing i've found is headlights everything else seems to be constantly hot when I install and add a fuse.

Those of us on budget grille lights use the INJ for add a fuse, but I think the orientation of that fuse would be better with a left add-a-fuse rather than right. I suspect it's not a big problem for a camera which should not draw significant current but that's not something I'd know without research of the specific camera. Seems reasonably safe to assume grille light current draw would be >= camera current draw?

    Read this thread.

Is there a reason you don't want to send power from the cab? You already have to get the video cable through somehow, right?

More detail on my front camera setup (have not finished installing my 6600 yet).

I just hate running more wires through the grommet, as of right now I have the Switch pro harness, Amp Power Wire, and that's it. Also if i stick with this harness that came with the camera the power is on the camera end.

It might help to see the connector from your camera. The one in my kit was a 6 pin, hence the 6 pin extension I used which was a single wire through the passenger grommet, then inside the cab that ties into a Y cable which sends video to the head unit, power to the camera, and has a plug in module for configuring the camera. If your camera is a 4 or 5 pin, you may still be able to grab an extension cable, use that to get the camera end into the cab, and do all your connections on the safe and dry inside. The plug for my 6 pin extension was significantly smaller than an rca jack so it fit through the factory passenger grommet with some coaxing.

    This is my camera:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H852D49

I think it's a 4 pin I only need the yellow RCA plugged into the HU, I'm using it as a fwd camera so I don't need a trigger wire. I'm not sure why it's a 4 pin as there's no ground on the head unit side of things.

So would something like this work?

    https://www.amazon.com/Backup-Camer...fix=4+pin+camera+exten,electronics,220&sr=1-5

That should give you enough length to get through the firewall + give you a quick disconnect so you can remove the grille. The rest of the connections you can make in the cab with the kit.

That's a great idea, i might cut some of the extra length off of the HU side and splice it back together, is that okay to do with video RCA?

I scrounged for a 3 foot yellow rca cable for my setup, runs from passenger kick to the head unit location. You can get a monoprice cable for $2 or so if you don't have one, or rip apart a spare red/white from your 1980's era vcr or ....

I would definitely not spend the time splicing a shorter rca by hand but if you enjoy it that's a different story.

EDIT: Link to monoprice cable, guess it's not in my writeup.

EDIT2: I don't know for certain that 4 pin extension works with your camera, only that my gamble on the 6 pin works great for me so please don't consider this a proven solution.

Hi guys, I am just about to pull the trigger on the 6600 head unit. I am a little hesitant because my previous Pioneer head unit (in one of my other cars) was kinda a dog and would constantly give me issues such as randomly restarting, it would randomly lock up, and the Apple Car Play would not work 10% of the time. I am hoping that was just a lemon. Has anyone had any reliability issues with this head unit?

I have always used nothing but pioneer head units. I’ve never had an issue with any of them. I would think you may have just had a defective unit. I can’t speak for the 6600 as mine is just arriving tomorrow. But pioneer has always been my go to brand.

My 4400 seemed less buggy so far but i expect the next software update to handle my problems. which are below:

-HU doesn't auto show carplay even though the phone will autoconnect and autoplay from carplay still shows the pioneer home screen

-Poor phone call audio and Siri audio

-Hardware gripe, only one USB with my last unit I hooken one USB to the factory mounted one and ran another to my phone mount, now my factory is unusable, I may replace with an HDMI port soon.

I had the same amp and speaker set up and didn't have these problems in the past with my 4400

I have had 4x pioneer headunits in my two VW Touaregs and one in my Tacoma: all have worked flawlessly. I will say the 6600 has had a few random restarts and all are attributed MaestroRR unit that is used to control steering wheel controlls.

Thanks for the feedback, I have been looking at this headunit for 8 months now and i just pulled the trigger. I really want to add a front camera that can be displayed anytime. Does anyone have any suggestions what camera and wiring to purchase?

FUUUU.... Amazon sent me the wrong radio antenna adapter... completely wrong from the images on the site. So I do the "you sent me the wrong thing" return, and they sent another. It got here today, and it's the SAME wrong antenna adapter! FFS Amazon!

I found another manufacturer on Amazon that has the same part, so I ordered that. We'll find out on Friday if they F this one up again!

So I am an idiot, I was unable to set my clock, or weather, and noticed my phone was getting super hot on drives longer than 15 minutes or so. Turns out I plugged the GPS into the trucks SiriusXM plug. They are the same plug... the WHITE plug coming from the truck is GPS and the BLACK is SiriusXM. Hopefully this helps someone.

Also, anyone with YouTube Music? The track forward and back steering wheel buttons work just fine (enabled by Maestro) on Google Play Music, but on YouTube music they act as skipping a few seconds ahead in the same track rather than skipping to the next song. Anyone experience this or know what could be wrong? Maybe it's a YT music bug in the app. Thanks!

I 'switched' to YTM this week to try it out. The first time I tried to play music via AA in the truck, it stopped with an error saying that it couldn't play the video? Since then it's been working, but the sound is very different than Play Music. It also starts playing and then a few seconds later, the sound changes... kinda like (what I think) the EQ not being on, then turning on. I've had to tweak sound on the headunit to try to compensate for that.

Otherwise since that first blip and the weird sound changing when it starts playing, my steering wheel controls seem to work normally. The forward and reverse do skip entire tracks like it should. The volume + and - work fine.

Google needs to nail down their music stuff. It's annoying.

Have everything on the harness soldered and ready to install tomorrow evening. Hopefully. The pack has two different rear camera harnesses. Which one do I use?
