Thank you kindly... I really wanted to opt for the Weather Guard but the one that actually fits inside the bed, is way too small and wouldn't leave enough room for tools. This Chest looks alot better to me than the ranger box and is wedged so I can sandwhich it to the back of the bed. Thank you for the input, I think I will order this week.

Resurrecting this thread. Mine came in today, but is missing pieces...the tray and the hardware are all missing! Can anyone give me the specs of the pieces they received so I can go buy them myself? I've already contacted Amazon regarding this, and without sending the box back, I'm getting a $25 credit back. How did you guys mount this so it doesn't slide around?

Anybody know how I can get one of these in Canada? I've only managed to find them on TruckCustomizers.com and they don't ship to Canada. I can cross the border however at Buffalo and grab one but I don't have an address for them to ship it to. Does anyone know of a postal place that will rent out a PO box so I can order it to there and then go pick it up?

From what I've found, they do. But they are much more expensive.

I've got a tri-fold tonneau cover though so I'm thinking I may look for an "under trailer" model because then I can still access it without having to take the cover off but it will hold all the stuff that is current in boxes strapped down.

How did you make it fit? I just ordered it since the dimensions said it was 42 inches at the bottom and I measured about 42.5 between the wheel wells and figured that would be enough clearance.

So I finally got it installed and this tool box does not fit the 3rd gen Tacoma, at least it didn't fit my 2018 OR DCSB. It's about 1.5 at 44 inches and the wheel wells in the DCSB is about 42.5 from what I measured. It ends up sitting about 4.5 inches above the bed floor. I ended up using 4 inch blocks of wood to have it sit on that goes on top of the wheel wells. I would have returned it but I got such a good deal on it off of Amazon warehouse deals because of a dent on the lid which is hardly noticeable that I was determined to make it work since it was so cheap to begin with. To secure it, I ended up using 3 ratchet straps, one in the back (you can see it in the picture, the wood is bolted secured to the box and it rests up against the hooks of the strap) to prevent it from moving forward from braking and then used ratchet straps through the mounting holes on each side of the box from the inside that hooks onto the D-loops attached to the bed to prevent it from moving towards the rear of the truck from accelerating. It's pretty much rock solid with just those ratchet straps. As for the locks, I ended up using a kryptonite bike cable I had laying around, a kryptonite U lock, and a padlock. I'm not too worried about it getting stolen since my neighborhood is pretty nice and there's nothing valuable in there (extra clothes, diapers, a little bit of basic tools, straps, and other small things that I can't store inside the cab). Hope this helps anyone who ended up getting it or can get it for a cheap price.

I ran into the same problem, BUT I have a 2014 DCSB OR.
I ordered the UWS TBS-54-SPLA-BLK Splash Black 54" Single Lid Crossover Tool Box positively thinking that it'll fit like the OP's but it didn't because the wheel wells slope inward a bit too much.

Too bad I found this out after sealing up the mounting slots with silicone and installing a BOLT latch kit (don't get one by the way. It does not securely lock for the Toyota version.) I should have test fitted it first. I'm going to return mine or put it up for sale and get the low profile, over the rails version instead. If anyone in SoCal wants to buy it off me, feel free to pm me.

I know this is an old post but just in case someone was doing research like how I was, and comes across this thread, I hope it helps them out.

    Hi everyone.

min kind of reviving a old thread, but I’m looking for a tool box that fits under a bakflip tonneau cover. I’m looking for suggestions for boxes in stock in Canada.

    thanks!

    So close...

Figured I’d bump in the slight chance that anyone has found one that fits a 3rd gen by resting on the wheel wells rather than the bed rails.

Pictured in tacoma_supreme’s post it looks like the box doesn’t quite fit flush in a double cab short bed due to the wheel wells. The angle that the “bed liner” comes in at where the wheel wells are doesn’t allow the box to slide in nice and snug. The box becomes wedged.

edit: hence the reason for the wood blocks holding the box up
