Is anyone out there as clueless and bad as me? Hear my story on how difficult it really can be to install new wheels (it’s not supposed to be).

First off, I wanted to get new wheels and tires for my 2011 Limited. Okay, sounds easy (should be), except I’m a dummy and didn’t research and find that 16 inch rims don’t fit over 5th gen rotors and brakes. Okay, so returning them wasn’t so bad, let me order some 17s! Okay great, they came! Should be easy to just put them on, right? Think again, we’re talking about me here. So like a dumbass I crank some of the lugs too tightly and *SNAP* there goes not one but two lug nuts. Of course in hindsight I learn that a torque wrench should be utilized, so I now have one (too late). So I have two extremely tight and snapped lug nuts that I cannot for the life of me grip and torque off. A couple garages I called told me nothing but “sorry don’t know what to tell you, getting it off will most likely damage your new rims I don’t even know if I want to try.”

So in conclusion, I have a wheel that will not come off, Hope that tire never goes flat!! Taking into a garage tomorrow to hear what they have to say cuz he was actually willing to take a look at it. But from what I hear, I may have ruined a completely fine new rim. Oh, and TPMS light will just not go away even after checking the spare and all the tires multiple times.

FML, I thought getting new wheels was supposed to be fun.

The studs were probably stretched from years of tire shops using an impact. You might have to risk breaking the other studs (with an impact, many ugga duggas) to get the wheel off, but pay to get all of the studs replaced once you do. Good luck on your endeavors

Dang I'm not even sure what I'm looking at. Did you really shear the top of your lugs off and just leave the bottoms in? If so I'd question how high quality those lugs were... I mean they are supposed to be silly strong even with you over torquing. Curious to see how this gets resolved, may need to drill out the lug bolts and replace them otherwise not sure how you'd remove them.

If it makes you feel better I've done that to caliper bolts and just sheared them off in the hole... torque wrenches save money =)

This is one of my best friends. Anyone local with the knowledge to perform the task or have a shop that could do the job? Hes had zero luck with the local garages.

Spit balling here. Could somebody with a steady hand and a good drill bit drill a series of holes in whatever remaining lugnut is there to try and break it off ?
Worth a shot before sacrificing the rim :fingerscrossed:

That is the debate we are having now. Lol. Simply put can we pull this off? I think we can.
