Got towed while in 4x4 and parking brake

Long story short, I had 4wd and my parking brake engaged and got towed for 2-3 miles. What kind of damage could be done to my truck?

 

Why?
Who?
Automatic Transmission?
Was it in Park?
Manual Transmission?
Was it in gear?
Did they drag the tires for 2-3 miles?

Possible Damage:
Tires
Rear Brakes
Automatic Transmission.

 

All of above most likely $$$$. That's what flatbed tow trucks are for.

 

Yeah. I was parking at my friends dorm while in college. Was rainy so I flipped on 4wd and the parking brake. Do y’all think it’s actually gonna be as bad as y’all have posted?

 

Why would you use 4wd in the rain?

 

You'll know if anything's broke next time you drive it.

Drunken 4 wheel donuts in the local park & you got hauled off to the Rusty Bars Motel??

 

Depends on how it was towed.

 

Seems like the tow truck driver would figure it out pretty quick.
Then call for a roll back.
Then again, it’s not their truck either?

Hopefully the tow company was professional and did the right thing.
The only way to know is to drive the truck.

People do this in the cold when there's snow/ice on a hill to help keep it from rolling away. Since the front is connected to the back in 4wd, with ebrake applied, the front is also locked in place. Maybe there was a flood warning and it was extra precaution??

Did they flatbed it or tow it?

 

Or throw the dollys on the rear wheels if they have them (most do these days). I think you're on point with the tow truck driver not going anywhere so would have to do something to get the vehicle moving and most likely not drag it how ever far to the yard.

To add to the list T-case

 

I’ve owned 4WD vehicles for 36 years in snowy, icy, hilly Western Pa. and have never given it a thought to do that...and never will, that’s pure paranoia.

 

I'm from NC and thought that a little weird too.

 

No it's not. I work in the field and have had my work vehicle start to slide down the drive once I put the transmission into park, set the brake and let off on the pedal and release the front wheels. Hell, I carry a chock of my own just because of that.

 

Nobody is using a flatbed for private property impounds. They take up too much room while loading and most parking lots don’t have that kind of room in line with the vehicle. The predatory slimeballs that do this type of towing know they are going to have to wheel lift and dolly pretty much everything. They hustle and scoop it up, throw the dollies under and are gone. It’s still possible that they could have damaged it while loading it, but it’s unlikely that they damaged the drivetrain while going down the road. It’s much more likely that they damaged a lowered Nissan 300ZX. Regardless, they’re not going to fess up or take any responsibility for damage. They’re slimeballs.
