we're all being "tracked" by our phones anyway, this is Toyota grown tired of paying for data others gathered and they are going to get the data themselves now with the help from AWS

You can opt out of data collection. I did from the start and never activated the services. This actually created a bit of friction and confusion with my salesperson. Part of their commission is based on you registering and activated the remote services. I informed the sales person I didn't want to for privacy reasons. There was a form as part of the sales process where you authorize the data collection, instead I X'd it out and wrote declined. The sales manager said that would be enough documentation for the salesperson to get full commission.

If you've already opted in, you can still opt out! Press the SOS button and request to opt out. You lose the ability to use the Toyota app to remote start, remote track, etc, but worth it for peace of mind and privacy. I think Toyota is too aggressive in getting people to opt into this but we should also be informed consumers!

Everyone with safety sensors on their vehicles are being tracked. All that data goes to the companies that make the sensors. they say they use it to map the roads.

Auto makers have been doing this for years now. I remember when my parents bought their Accord in 2015, there was info in the fine print stating that by signing you give Honda permission to keep track of your data. Speed, breaking, location mapping etc.

I can leave my phone at home, I don't own an alexa/google home, and I can be pretty anonymous in the interwebs. No way in hell I'm letting someone track my car this easy - they're gonna have to work for it.

You do know the Police have the capability now to shut a vehicle off during a pursuit thanks to the Black boxes inside newer vehicles

I believe that is limited to vehicles with connectivity like WiFi/Cell service built in (Tesla for example).

No they don't. If the owner of a GM car gives the police and OnStar permission, and the police have the car in sight, the police can request the onstar operator to shut it down. The onstar operator then warns the thieves it will shut down in one minute. That a lot of its and one kind of vehicle.

No need to worry guys, I'm sure @MESO will come up with a black box blackout kit to somehow stop the tattle tale device while providing an LED bread toasting accessory
