I was on the way home from the chiropractor too because I had ruptured 2 of my lumbar discs. It was pretty damn uncomfortable in the back of the squad car to say the least.

 

Very similar to what happened to me, mine was that the dealer put the wrong plate that belonged to another vehicle of the same make/model different color.

I was in the wendy's drive thru and the cop behind me getting burger probably ran my plate

he followed me a long way and pulled me over, but didn't approach me until back up arrived

and then he asked : "is this your car?"

I said yes, and showed him the registration and license, the dealer messed up the rear plate and the front plate matches the registration

I told the cop I had no idea, the dealer put the plates on, so he told me to get it resolved and let me go, no tickets or anything.

that was more than 10 years ago in Upstate NY.

OP's treatment was way excessive

 

I got the t-shirt, too. I think it kind of helps. Once you experience that terror, most of other lifes' curve balls pretty much pale by comparison.
