Just suffered the apparently very common broken fuel door hinge. I have the new door from my local dealership and got my hands on a can of 4T3 to spray it myself. Question is, what is the best clearcoat to use for this? And do I want glossy or matte?

You could just change the hinge and keep the original painted door. That's what I did.

Can you tell me where you ordered the hinge from, my dealer told me it was one complete unit. Thanks

I don't believe you can buy a hinge only then attach your correct color fuel door since it comes as a complete unit. I had a local body shop paint and mount mine for around $100. They did a fantastic job! Keep those hinges lubricated!!

If that is what you are using for a clear coat It may be ok but if it were mine I would use a 2K catalyzed clear like the one on the rest of your truck.

Dealership. Or a salvage yard if your lucky enough to find a tacoma in one.
The double cab door is different from the access cab/ regular cab door. The hinge and door come as an assembly unpainted from the dealer.
I just carefully pried the hinge tabs open on the new door with a flat screwdriver, removed the new hinge and reinstalled on my original door. Just don't bend the tabs open any more than you need to. I used 1/4" bolts nuts and washers to reinstall the hinge and door on the truck. I originally bought the oem rivets that hold the hinge on but the shanks are huge and require a special tool other than a standard parts store rivet puller. A new door and hinge from the dealership is around $40.

@mikkydee is right on. If you’re going to paint, 2K clear is the only way to go and Spraymax is a great brand for spot repairs.
