I've got a 83k 01 Tacoma that runs great but when I take the foot off the brake I get a clunk "feel" in the rear diff. The trany is smooth but that clunk is unnerving. Should I start saving for a new rear end?? Also, if it is bad can I install higher gears for better gas mileage??
    Thanks in Advance

I agree with twoarezee-probably the u-joints. I had the same EXACT thing happen to me with my 91 Mazda B2600. It would clunk when I put it in gear and it gradually got worse and louder until it snapped. Take it in NOW before it gives out....cause it WILL!

your welcome. its better to catch it early than to have your drive shaft fall off.
