I’m currently on ship and my truck is parked in south Louisiana where two cat 1 hurricanes are suppose to hit. We are headed into port but I’m not sure if I can even get off the ship to move my vehicle.

so what happens in the event of a total loss, truck gets completely destroyed by storm surge? I have lots of aftermarket parts on it.

would the insurance company pay out and I can keep the truck? Hoping things go well for me and these hurricanes don’t cause too big of a storm surge but if they do, I would just like to know my options.

Depends on the insurance company, the adjuster, and whether there is a lien on the car.

I had one car rear-ended by a texting driver. The cost to repair was greater than the car's worth. The insurance company offered a "buy-back" program where I could keep the car if I settled for a $300 reduction in the settlement amount. The $300 amount was determined by the price the car would bring at the local crusher salvage yard. I took the $300 buy-back offer and received a check for $2,700. Since the car didn't change hands during the transaction, no salvage title was issued. I sold the car and the new owner drove it for many years before trading it for a new Tundra.

I do know unless your policy is adjusted as you go all your added goodies are not factored in to any payments

so you get paid on the value of your 2003

That’d be ok as long as I’m allowed to take the truck so I can take off all the parts I put on it.
I was looking for 2001-2004 1st gens last night (just in case) and their still out there. Hopefully all will go well. We’ll see how it goes.

Negative, They just shut down all of Fourchon, Louisiana. You had till 1200 to high tail it out of there. if harbor police catches anyone on the streets they said they will be arresting people. We are still 8 hrs out from port so its all in Gods hands. I keep telling myself, its just a truck, they'll be others but many of us can testify how we grow attached to these little trucks. Its like having a good ole farm dog, when it dies, a part of us dies with it. :D
