I'm due to replace my dealership-provided tires soon, which provides me with an opportunity to change my wheels as well. I've been planning on OEM T4R SEMA wheels, since they check all my boxes:

    (in order of importance)
    ☑ 17 inch
    ☑ Available in black
    ☑ Light weight
☑ Moderate offset, to prevent undue stress on wheel bearings
☑ Made by Toyota, so no worries about QC or durability

There is one issue I have with the SEMA wheels. I don't especially like them. Sure, I like them better than the wheels I currently have, but I'm not chomping at the bit to buy them either.

Are there any other wheels out there that check all the same boxes? OEM strongly preferred. I'm familiar with the FN Six Shooter and Countersteer Type X, but those aren't terribly attractive to my eye either.

    No, there is not.

The original FJ Trail Teams wheels (the 6 spoke ones, not the ones that are the same as the Tacoma TX/Baja wheels) check all the boxes except 17".

FJ steelies check all the boxes except light weight haha.

    Most OEM wheels are silver.

@rocky_mountain_dave, I think you’re right. SEMA it is. I’m sure I’ll warm up to their appearance eventually.

Those are technically an alternative, just not in the way I'm looking for.

If my preferred tire came in a 16" wheel variant, I'd be buying these without a doubt in my mind. Far and away the best looking wheel Toyota has ever produced, in my opinion.

Agree they are a great design. Curious, what tire are you getting?

Michelin Defender LTX M/S in P255/75R17. Grandpa tires, but they’ll last a projected 106,250 miles with 5 tires in rotation. 99% of my driving is city/highway, so it’s the only sensible choice.

Great choice if it fits your needs. I put Michelin Crossclimates on my wife's Lexus RX350 (very similar tire but slightly more winter oriented) and have nothing but good things to say about them. Love no longer having to switch between winter and all season tires twice a year.

If Michelin offered their LTX A/T2 in a non-E-load rated 32+ inch size, I would have gone for those instead. Consumer Reports states that they work better than all other A/T tires on wet pavement and have a projected treadlife nearly equal to that of the Defender M/S. Here's to hoping they offer an expanded size selection in the future. A C-load rated 255/80R17 A/T2 would be ideal.

    That's a refreshing answer.

I like the aggressive aesthetic of A/T tires, but I like making smart choices and saving money more.
