I'm re-furbishing my 2010 reg cab Tacoma (4 cyl 5 spd mt 4X4 40K miles) and I've discovered that the OEM condenser is falling apart at the bottom, just the fins, no leaks yet. I have a new replacement (TYC brand) condenser on the way and will install it with new Toyota seals (90301-A0012 & 90210-A0002) and pressure valves. I'm thinking about replacing the A/C clutch, which is rusty & worn but still functioning, but I'm also considering replacing the entire compressor instead (including new clutch & pulley), before getting a vacuum & recharge done. I am also replacing the serpentine belt (Bando), two idler pulleys (Koyo) & belt tensioner (Litens) during this process.

My question is should I go and replace the compressor, which is worn in appearance but apparently functional, no indicators of misfunction or impending failure; or just replace the clutch and continue on with the compressor? I'm wondering what the life of the OEM compressor is and whether or not mine will continue working for years to come after a condenser & recharge. Should I also replace the expansion valve? Evaporator core? High & low pressure lines? I'm open to suggestions for replacement compressors; would prefer OEM or OEM-supplier.

Also, for those that are wondering why I have a '10 with 40K miles; It's an extra vehicle which generally gets used in winter or other occasional situations. But it's my little buddy so I like to take care of it!

Well I have a 2010 with 180K. My compressor clutch shredded @146K...that's also when I chose to do the Serpentine belt because I'm the 2nd owner and got the truck with 78K....I chose to just do the clutch because why pull a part that is working...You could get another 100K out of that A/C...I think I still have a dent it the back of my hand from trying to get that new clutch on in that tight space. Oh and all the clutch tools I found didn't fit the tacoma...I had to use a tack nail and pliers to hold it in place to tighten the bolt.
