I recently purchased LED interior lights and installed them. They work fine when the truck is on but when I turn off my truck and open the door, they never turn on. I can turn the dome light from "door" to "on" and still get no lighting. Has anyone had this issue and know of a fix for it?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
The 01+ trucks the dome dims when the truck is off it will do that with all 01 to 04 trucks if you just place a bulb in the socket.

You'll need to add some 1W 100ohm resistors. I used 2 for the dome light and 1 for each map light.

I went with these for my dome and map lights and I have no problems at all. No resistors and no flickering issues. If you have Amazon Prime, give them a try. Don't like em, send em back. I have nearly completed my switch over to LED and haven't needed resistors at all. I found that depending on the LED used, flickering can happen. Different LED suppliers, different results.

People change to LED to save energy, then add resistors that burn just as much energy as a regular bulb. Logic?

I think most people switch for the brightness and looks of led.

I wonder if you can change a relay or something so you don't have to add resistance.

You don't have to use resistors. That's what I was saying. It just depends on the LED. I've swapped out to led for maps, dome, headlights, reverse, converted signals to switchback LEDs and side marker lights are also LEDs. Aside from the OE flasher relay swap to prevent hyperblink I haven't done anything else besides change bulbs. :)

I can't be 100% that it was the flasher relay but I don't believe it was. I had dim flickering in the dome until I tried different LEDs in those three - maps and dome.

If you buy a LED like the one posted above it already has additional circuitry allowing it to be installed without having to worry about polarity as well as avoiding the need for added resistors. So yes, buying certian LED bulbs solves the OP's issue however, you are still using more power then necessary because of the added circuitry. I would think you could just as easily change a relay, bridge a circuit or something, similar to swapping the flasher, to get any LED to work without the dimming/flickering the OP is talking about. It may not be worth the time or cost but you never know... I'd rather the interior lights didn't dim when the truck is off anyway.

Gonna try and bring this thread back to life. Is there anyway to stop the truck from dimming the dome light when the truck is off.

The led light needs a resistor in the circuit. This is the one i used and everything works perfect. It even dims when I lock the truck.

so the only way i can fix it is resistors and not relays?ive also bought one of the sylvania zevo bulbs but it just dims until i turn it,then it fully lights up

Short answer is yes. The system needs to see a bit of resistance in order to function properly. Easiest is to solder a small resistor from one end of the bulb to the other. Works like a charm.

What ohm resistor did you use? I've been using one the ones I linked above but have to run it outside the truck because it get hot quick

Good to know this is normal with LED bulbs in the 1st Gen. I just noticed it a couple months ago. I thought I had a short somewhere so I left the dome lights on off instead of door to be safe lol! Now I need to find correct bulbs that won't dim.

The only buld I'm aware of that won't dim is the old school incandescent bulbs. I domt think any of the led buld will work unless you put a resistor in the circuit but it easy to do.

Yeah the incandescent bulbs for sure won't since it has more resistance than the led bulbs. I like the brightness and color of the led bulbs so I will try to find some with the resistor built in. If not I'll just add a brown/black/gold resistor or something.

Another solution would be to add more led lights to the circuit. One could mount multiple lights around the cab all wired to the dome light.
