    Hey guys,

I've done some searching but haven't had great luck finding the answers I'm looking for. I've been going back and forth between turbocharging the 2TR-FE or swapping in a 1GR-FE. While V6 swaps into 4 bangers seems fairly common on 1st gens, not finding much for second gens.

Considering the X-Runner is a lowered 5 lug with body modifications and a V6, seems like this would be a fairly straight forward swap (X-Runner motor mounts, using existing trans, exhaust, ECU, etc.). Am I missing something on why this hasn't been done?

For reference, this is a 2006 Tacoma Access Cab Base Model.

Cost, you'd pretty much need a rusted donor access cab pre runner v6.

The ECU's add up one by one, but a whole truck would reduce costs.

Compared to supercharger kits or pieced together turbo kits, it seems like it is within the same ballpark price wise if everything is relatively plug and play to pick up a salvage or piece together parts for the swap.

    Do a 1uz v8 swap instead. That's what I'm doing

I know that people have also done a 2uz swap that's pretty much a bolt in.

Definitely have thought about it! I've been following your thread closely. Massive props on all the progress!

Honestly the main reason for looking 1GR-FE swap versus 1/2UZ swaps is the possibility of a "weekend" swap, more along the lines of what you see with Hondas, if that makes any sense? Meaning a type of swap that can be done by someone with marginal mechanical skills, with every type of swap having guides, kits and a plethora of posts on forums to reference and theoretically can be done in a single weekend. I haven't had much success finding info on this type of swap. I work from home so don't mind not having a vehicle for a few weeks but not sure if the wife will let me occupy the garage for months on end.

Since I'll need to do emissions and am decent mechanically, I figured the 1GR-FE would be an easier route to go, especially finding a salvage X-Runner. I've helped a friend pull an engine before but never attempted a full swap so any swap with minimal fabrication is the goal.

What has been your biggest headache so far with your 1UZ swap?

Ah yeah I don't have to deal with emissions which helps alot. I'm doing alot of extra stuff with my project like plating my front frame, welded motor mounts, hydraulic which and mid travel suspension with 8" kings in new shock towers. The 2uz apparently can bolt in with a combination of motor mounts from a tundras and 4runners. There was someone on the 5 lug Facebook group that went that route.
