Ok, I have a bone stock 4x4 OR DCSB and my GF gave me $1200 for my birthday to do something to my truck. Don't plan on doing serious crawling but just want it good for taking off-road and not worrying about getting myself into a jam. I mountain bike alot and plan to use the truck to get me further out to camp and what not.

I was thinking of 5100s all around and spending rest on, alignment, grille and accessories. Or should I bank it and save more wheels and tires?

Not sure about what “offroadish” mods you may need, but get a good hitch bike rack.

The truck stock is good enough as is and wont get you stranded as long as you have good tires.

But thats if you want to save that money for other mods. New suspension isnt totally necessary, its just a preference.

Maybe start with gear to get you back home if something goes wrong especially if you plan on going out further than most. Tire repair Kit, portable battery charger, fire extinguisher, first aid kit and basic recovery gear etc.

Having your HAM radio license is always a good idea, personal preference. Bed mat is nice and some all weather floor mats, as mentioned above a good set of Tires and some basic tools. It adds up even before the Mods.

Tires for sure. You don't need a lift or suspension upgrade to do some serious offroading in these trucks, but the stock tires are a very poor choice for an off-road oriented truck.

The lift will look cool, sure, but it won't add any real functionality for your needs. Tires will add a lot of functionality. Plus some of the more aggressive looking tires (Duratracs, KO2s, Wildpeaks, Ultraterrains, Cooper st maxx, etc.) will improve the overall look of your truck as well.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
The right tires on OE wheels will get you most everywhere just fine. No suspension work needed.

Also, you can upgrade to a slightly larger tire size - 265/75/16 - without any rubbing or additional upgrades. The speedometer stays fairly spot on too.

Ditto - safety of the people, safety of the truck, only then consider improving capability

I was visiting my gf family in Coachella, so I took the truck to Truck Haven in Octillo and notice the truck couldn't even clear the beginner obstacles without damaging something. Kind of had a realization moment, that's why I mentioned the 5100 from what Ive read on the forums

I'm digging the Wildpeaks. Not sure if I should run the OE Goodyear's to the ground first.

Sliders, skids, tires, recovery gear. Add the weight, before the lift.
Since you are kinda local to SoCal.
Hit up @Shmellmopwho or @GHOST SHIP for a set of sliders.

Hard locking tonneau cover and oem power tailgate lock are two of my favorite mods/additions.

Fair enough. Luckily, my decision was kind of made for me. After 5,000 on the stock tires, they were so torn up and chunked out by the trails I was driving on, that I called Toyota to complain. They directed me to one of their certified tire locations (happened to be a Discount Tire), and the technician agreed with me. They warrantied the tires for $105 each, and I put that towards a new set of Duratracs.

Buy Apple shares and then with the profit. Get a nice ring for the gf and ask her to marry you.

Agreed, the last thread we had here of "1000 to spend" I told the person to buy GNUS, then in 2 weeks it went from $1.36 to $11.60... Of course the person didnt, but a few other people did and made some good money.
