Hex Screw

I put a hex screw into a hole, and I bought the wrong hex screw. The size was right but the amount of threading was wrong (I NEEDED MORE). Not realizing what I was doing, I proceeded to push the hex screw past the thread onto the cylinder portion. Once I realized my mistake, I tried to back the hex screw out with my socket wrench but to no avail, it just continues to turn in circles.

I tried hitting the bottom of it with a hammer while backing it out.

I also tried holding the bottom and pushing upwards while turning it.

Nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

 

not knowing anything more than what's provided...

pull and turn with your fingers until threads catch then back the rest of the way

if it's too tight for fingers, try prying up under the head of the screw with a screw driver, claw hammer or something similar until the threads catch

When it spins, is it tough to spin? If the bolt was sligtly TOO BIG and you managed to shove it in there, you've stripped the bolt & the hole and the 'material' that's been shaved off, is now putting pressure on the screw so you can't back it out (easily).

We need more information or pictures to help you.

As a last ditch effort, you're probably gonna have to cut the bolt head off and re-drill the retap the hole. But again - we need pictures or more information.

 

I ended up sawing it off, and I have to replace the shell connector.

I was unable to back it out, and a repair shop couldn't even do it. I had pushed the hex screw past the threads, and I guess it sheared the threads, and it wouldn't back out at all.
