It seems like the Noco is overpriced and under performs. The GB70 is like $150. Why is it so popular?

 

it works for me. I also use it to run an air pump and it will run the pump for many minutes and never show the battery needs recharging. Cables are built in. You can’t reverse the polarity. Great light built in. I paid $200 2 years ago. I bought a $15 case for it and it stays in the back of my SUV at all times. NOCO GB70 is what the tow guy showed up with. I mentioned I had one and he said his was the best he’d ever used. I would buy it again.

 

I hear there are better ones too...but I have 2 of the GB70s and 3 of the GB40s...I keep one in all of our vehicles...I just always stick with what works for me. It's probably not the best consumer strategy...but I'm an old guy that in set in his ways. My son recently bought a 2002 Tacoma SR5 Off Road 4x4 from a close friend (who bought it new)...on the way home I had him stop by the auto store and I bought him a GB40, he keeps it in his truck all the time. Plus I can run my CPAP on the GB70 - when I camp.

 

That actually answered one of my questions is can I use it a 12V source and the answer sounds like yes. The idea is I could use it with an inverter to power small stuff as needed.

 

Take them apart. Stuff is all the same. Crappy parts, poorly thrown together in slave factories. Beats me why people think the way they do.

 

This confusion is why I got a jnc 660. No risk, and don’t have to wait for anyone as it’s saved me a few times. Only need to top it off every 6 months, and it fits perfectly behind the read seats in a Double cab like it was made for it.

 

It states "The ideal storage environment is room temperature, or 68ºF." It gets a hell of alot hotter than that in my truck during the summer.

I’m in Texas and it gets about 110 in the summer and it’s humid outside, and probably much hotter inside my truck when its parked. It’s fine. I doubt Illinois is hotter

I got a chance to watch video. Very surprising results, except for the HF one. I do love HF, but I don't have a good feeling about their jump packs or battery chargers. I have plenty of their corded tools though and enjoy them without fail. The Noco failure was a shocking.

Funny thing. Our daughter left the dome light on in my wife's Subaru. Completely flat battery. That car just pisses me off. For one, it is supposed to have low voltage protection. We have had at least five deep (DEEP) cycles because it just doesn't. The interior lights, including the stupid hatch light, are not on relays. They will burn until the battery is done. This is the first car that we had in a damn long time that doesn't have a 20min relay on interior lights. Thankfully, this is the first deep cycle on this battery. The first one was replaced under warranty when it gave up the ghost at the dealership during a service. It was our fault, but they swapped it, no questions asked.

Anyway, my iClever jump pack turned it over like it was nothing.

 

Way back when I had my 2008 Tacoma l accidently left the door open all night, the truck eventually killed the dome light so my battery was still able to start the truck.

 

Yessir. That is the funny part. Toyota has the 20min timer, even my non-Tech / non-Prem Taco, but the fully optioned Subaru doesn't and is their partner. Hell, I think my POS 1996 Dodge had a timer on the interior lights.

Even the basic headlights on the Taco are smarter. In the dark winter days, I enjoy that I can leave them on in any setting, esp parking lights, and they turn off automatically. Either according to the option setting or 20min.

Of course the Subaru has the absolutely bonehead automatic hatch lift also. We're in that age were we are closer to the Wally-E apocalypse that I am comfortable with. B&L!

 

Thanks for posting this. I was going with the NOCO until I decided to watch this video. Those 2 top ones come with the carrying case and wall plug in that NOCO does not. NOCO does sell them as accessories. LOL

 

Thanks for the input. I just bought one today, and because I'm in central Florida, heat in the parked truck is definitely an issue I've learned to be concerned about. Not as bad as the folks who live out west, but I've had heat ruin stuff stored in the truck before. I plan on keeping mine behind the rear seat compartment.

 

Good luck! I understand the FL heat too - I had a home in Cutler Ridge Fl MANY years ago - lost it during Hurricane Andrew (1992). I also had a home in Lighthouse Point FL.

NOCO GB70 is right up there. If people were having a problem with them they wouldn’t be rated so high. The GB70 has over 3,200 ratings and the average is 4.6/5. That’s pretty strong. The Audew 2000Amp (comparable to the GB70) has a little over 600 ratings for a rating of 4.7/5.0. 84% are 5.0. Pretty strong again. Both have 1 year warranties. Your choice.

 

The Audew web site you can buy the "Audew 2000A" for $26.10 cheaper than Amazon.

lol no, nothing that bad. Mostly small stuff like cans of bugs spray over-pressure and leak, and if you've ever had that happen you know DEET destroys all plastic/nylon it comes in contact with, so lost a Camelbak, and some of the stuff inside. Also had a roll of electrical tape melt inside a tool bag, and get goo on all the tools, but that was just mildly annoying.

As someone mentioned on here a few posts ago, I also read Amazon reviews, and a couple people said this Noco has swelled up in the heat from them leaving it in their car, but who knows what the conditions really were. I'd rather have it, and take the chance than be stranded in the swamp with no cell signal and no help if my battery dies.
