Been shopping manuals for awhile, thanks to this Carmax/Carvana thing where they are taking in Tacoma’s for exactly what I paid (excluding tax) I foresee this as being the best time to get a redo on my truck.

I have a 2018 4x4 auto cement offroad with a hood scoop, and was considering the same rig just with a manual, but the dealer has a 2020 TRD sport on the lot in cement, and I am pretty close to snagging it considering I smile every time I see the scoop.

Is there a big difference between the sport and offroad? I feel like personally I’d get more enjoyment out of seeing the scoop everyday than ever needing a rear locker, but I’d rather need it and not have it, than have it and not need it. Can a manny tranny and 4LO get you out of most if not all bad situations?

Other than the size of the rear and the locking diff. No. Do it. You can add a locker when you regear to 5.29. Win win.

Depends on how much off roading or what type of off roading I can tell you for having a manual is the only way to go for me so if it’s about having a MT go for it I went 795 miles to get what I was looking for in a MT

Looks like you have a sport too! How is the ride in the dirt? I plan to swap the suspension out after Christmas to Bilstein 6112/5160s but in the mean time I’d like a decent on road and off-road ride. The offroad rise is personally perfect for me despite the body roll

I love the way it rides even stock is just fine for me & for using it camping & fishing has been perfect witch I use it for more than major off roading when we do go somewhere off roading my uses his jeeps it’s set up for that type of stuff & I don’t have to trash mine to hard But I love having a MT

I love my MT the only thing is that coming from an sr AT that has a very low 6th gear I find myself many times going from 6th to 7th speed on my manual and then realizing that I do not have it and going back to 6th... that is the only thing I would change on the MT.. for highway driving, 6th gear is a bit too high I my opinion...

Glad to hear you finally settled on the MT, I know you have been waffling back and forth between AT and MT, when are you going to snatch it up?

The MT is a completely different driving experience than the AT. It’s so much better. Add OVTune on top and I really have no complaints about my truck.

edit: other than reverse. It’s too tall but the 2lo mod fixes that.

You’ve been watching me  haha, it’s about a 3-4 hour drive to the dealer and should be there in 5 days they said. So hopefully I’m shifting gears by the weekend

Nah I usually read the MT Threads and remembered seeing you mentioned it a few times. It is a different experience from the AT so you should enjoy, hopefully everything goes thru for you, good luck!

It still to this day amazes me how differently the two drive. After 45k on my auto, it took me a 10 mile test drive to make up my mind and order my MT. Zero regrets. I’m also getting better fuel economy.

I don’t know how the off road rides but I think the sport rides nice. No complaints so far. I’ve taken it camping many times already and driven on very easy off roading and it rides good. If I had the chance again, I would try harder to find a MT. The auto transmission is kind of annoying but I’m slowly getting used to it.

I don’t know personally but I’ve heard all those off road features on the off road are all a gimmick for the most part. Some good tires will do the job especially with the more control you have with the MT.

    this and that...
how often have you ever full wheeled your OR and been like "oh i need crawl control" or "oh i need a locker", be serious now. the sport has 4wd too, which is MORE than enough even if you do find yourself wanting to go do some offroading. also has the bigger rear axle cause youre going mt, but thats neither here nor there. you do get the 4.30 gears which is definately a step up from the ones in the at. i never found myself yet thinking i wanted to upgrade to 4.88s.
