I posted this in the performance section but I figured I would ask here too. I’m looking into buying a supercharger for my truck in the near future and I’m wondering what would be the best one for my truck. I’m not hunting huge power gains, I just need something to help with towing a travel trailer. What’s the pros and cons of each style( urd, or Magnuson). And what one would you guys choose and why.
    Thanks

Good luck with URD customer service.

Magnuson is much less of a potential headache.

For towing I would go with a roots blower, aka Magnuson. You’ll have power and torque gains throughout the RPM band, most importantly including down low. URD will give more top end power, but you’ll need to rev higher for it. Magnuson was Toyota’s OEM supercharger supplier, and there is something to be said for the quality that comes with that. If you can get the TRD ECU tune at the dealer rather than the 3rd party one from Magnuson, the TRD tune is cheaper and better and OEM. The Magnuson unit isn’t super impressive for the money initially, but putting a slightly smaller pulley on it really makes a big difference.

How much would a dealer charge to flash the ecu, I plan on installing it myself. And where is the best place to get it, I was looking at ordering off urd’s website.

1hr shop time typically. $100something. Need to find a dealer willing to do it though, some won’t on a non-TRD unit.
