I'm searching for a replacement alternator for my '10 reg cab 4 cyl MT and I've got a question for the experts: Who can tell me what the differences are between Toyota part numbers 270607541184 & 2706075490? The first number is for a remanufactured alternator, listed as for '...200903 to 200910...' (is that September 20 2003 to September 20 2010?)

The second number is for another alternator, listed as '...alternator W R ...'; Does anyone know what the 'WR' refers to?

I'm getting the info from here:https://toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com/alternators

My truck was manufactured before 11-09, so I'm looking at the first number as my replacement alternator (looks like a remanufactured Denso). Most of the aftermarket, new-manufactured alternators available seem to be of the 'later' pattern, or interchangeable with the second number above. I want to know if I can acquire a new-manufactured aftermarket alternator (such as TYC) and fit it into my '10 Tacoma 2.7L if it 'interchanges' with the second number above.

I can't see any visual differences, even the plugs appear identical. The mounting surfaces appear the same, so does the 7-groove pulley. TYC advertises their alternator as '...OEM fit, form and function...'. I would appreciate any opinions on the feasibility of this installation, which, aside from the new part number, appears to be routine.

    Thanks in advance!

I have not yet spoken to any parts people, but I plan to shortly. Interestingly, the link from BillsSR5 is for the 'later' pattern, but it shows 2010 as being a 'fit'; that could be 2010's from 11/09-onward.

My understanding is one for 3/2009 - 10/2009
The other is for 11/2009 - Newer
If I were really concerned about it, I probably look on the door sticker and seen when my truck was manufactured and get the correct one.
Me, being who I am, I’d get what ever one Toyota has in stock, and stick it on.
They both seem to be 80A/12v.

My research shows the TYC is manufactured in China.
With all the stories of faulty “New” and “Reman”.
I’d hesitate to buy anything, from anyone, other than OEM or OEM Reman.
Somethings are fine to go “cheap” on, but not parts that are critical to keep me “moving”

I went to the TYC site and found this

Thanks to all that replied. My understanding was that the TYC was manufactured in Taiwan, the 'Republic of China'. Diodes & rectifiers are Japan/US. It looked like a pretty good unit to me, getting it would allow me to retain my original & rebuild it myself.

I spoke to some Toyota parts counter techs today & was told the only one available for my truck (by vin) was the rebuilt Denso (#270607541184). They really couldn't tell me anything about the alternators themselves; I'm really seeking someone with knowledge or experience in this area for an opinion. I honestly can't see any differences in the alternators myself.

Interesting. Following along to see the answer. Also, I’m curious if there are resources for rebuilding our alternators.

    UPDATE....

So I installed the TYC alternator (2-11354) and it fit perfectly. It's a nice unit, finish seems top-notch. I also installed a Litens belt tensioner (999308A), a Koyo upper idler pulley (PU107029RMXY) and a Bando belt (7PK2285). I'm going to need an OEM Toyota replacement lower idler pulley (88440-25070, about $50) as the Koyo I had ready to go in wouldn't fit; the factory attachment bolt is too thick.

How about the contrast between the new frame and the old engine block!

My Carquest alternator replacement September 2021.
Purchased for my 2012, 2.7L, Tacoma Prerunner...The stator windings are much thicker than OEM. My lights are brighter white.
Quite, smooth turning, exact fit. Competitive priced. From what I see inside, the quality of this remanufactured alternator is quite impressive. This looks heavy duty. My OEM appears very frail in comparison. FYI. Had to share. Very happy is all I am. Spread some fortunate news I happened upon.
