Our power went out this morning due to a construction crew nearby hitting a powerline while digging. So I used it as an excuse to pitch getting a generator to the wife. I've wanted one for a while but it's always been one of those "Do we really need one?"

I ended up with this one from Harbor Freight. I've heard nothing but good things about their predator engines so I thought I would give it a shot. I got the one year additional warranty which allows for a one-time no questions asked replacement. Of course right as I got home, the power was restored. I fired it up anyways to make sure it worked and to start the break-in process.

So far it seems like an awesome generator and a fairly budget-friendly price, and it's super quiet. Overall I'm really impressed with it so far.

Exactly. She was like "hmmmmm what if we start freezing breast milk? Yeah, we should get one."

When we were having our house built, I was able to talk the wife into having the house wired in preparation for a generator. Early on, we lost power a couple of times so we bought the actual generator. Runs off of our propane. Haven't had an outage since. But when the zombies start showing at least I'll have power for as long as 1000 gallons of propane lasts.

That is really nice. I know a couple people with their house wired for a generator. One just has two honda inverter generators under a little shed thing attached to his house. Seems like a fairly inexpensive thing to do and the smaller generators are portable if needed.

I had a friend that did the same. It's definitely worth it if you know how to wire it into the circuit breaker box. Or you can use the extension cord method. In hind sight I would've done it this way. We really only care about the freezer and maybe running a few small draw items. The igniter for the fireplace, and an outlet or two to run fans and/or charge a phone. The one we ended up with is overkill. Lots of overkill. The electrician did it as side-work so that part wasn't as bad as it could be. I don't remember what we paid for the generator, but it was too much. I would have rather had a nice shed for the money.

If you don't follow Project Farm on tube of You you most certainly SHOULD.

Also he abuses predator motors throughout the last year plus or so!

If you want true preparation, you should get Generac that runs off your natural gas line. Damn near unlimited power.

Generacs are nice if you keep up with the service and learn how to do it yourself.

The reason we dont have a generator hardwired is because the roi is minuscule compared to the cost.

I'd also second having a nice shed over the hardwired generator

Sold my bedrack today. Weird thing is the truck completely looks different to me now. Like more than it should.

It's pretty wild, right? Just folding down my softopper makes a wild difference in overall appearance. I much prefer the open bed look.

I was hoping the bedrack helped hold the bedsides together a bit lol

Nice job! Good idea using the angles to hold things in place while you came up with the template...

Thanks, I was scratching my head trying to think of something heavy I could rest on it when the little lightbulb went off.

Yeah cant go wrong w/ a generator. We are currently looking at a whole house backup now that the baby's here. The portable isnt quite cutting it after the last time we lost power it was for a week, but when the storms are bad we have been averaging 24 hours w/o power.

Morning! Hope you all are doing well and your baby is growing strong!!

Ours will be 8 months Saturday and man it's going quickly!

Doing the same here, but wish I had Nat'l Gas here...so I'm pricing 500gal LP underground tanks (since the longest we've gone withoit power for 3 days at the new place these last two years). At my last house was on NG and it was great during 4-13 day power outages from Nor'Easter and Ice Storms...no gas can needs or waiting on a delivery or LP.

Either way I dislike our thermostats, they have to be reprogrammed (Date Year,Time) before they 'turn on' the HVAC to run...
