Off-roading trips southwest VA

I’m going to school at VT in southwest Virginia, and was wondering if there are any groups within a few hours of there who do off-road trips that me and a Jeep buddy could join in on.

 

Hey buddy I go to tech as well, don't know of any good trails though

 

Kind of late to this thread, but Uwharrie National Forest in NC might work. It's about 3-hrs from Blacksburg.

I know several forest service roads right around Blacksburg and the surrounding counties that should work if anyone is really interested.

 

I live in Ashe county NC (NW corner of the state) There's Richland Rd you could find on Youtube or Google it. There is also the Linville falls area but both are south of SW Va. You can also look on where2wheel.com and you might be able to find some trails on there.

SC4WDA is the school club its like 20 bucks to join them for a year or something. There are tons of places to wheel around here, im currently at tech too

 

There a great deal of them near Harrisonburg as well JMU area. Flag Pole Knob and Peters mill are popular ones.

 

I am out of Richmond and depending on the distance would be willing to join.

 

Uwharrie is a good time. Potts mountain is definitely doable bone stock, but prepare for pinstripes, the trail brush gets tight. I would recommend Uwharrie above the others due to the amount of trails and amount of camp grounds in the area. Also, even if you wheel there "alone" you don't have to be worried about not having someone to pull you out of a sticky situation as it is fairly popular (we all know wheeling alone is not recommended), although it might hurt your taco pride to get yanked out by a jeep. I'd be down assuming scheduling works out. There's also a dedicated URE thread in one of the regional forums.


EDIT: I May have gotten Potts mixed up with Big Levels/Bald Mountain. Watching some videos I realized i wasnt thinking about the right trails.
