At least with the 3.0 Toyota replaced short blocks and head gaskets well outside of warranty. The 4.0 and 3.5 people are being told to kick rocks after the warranty ended.

I do kick around the idea of selling my 3rd gen. The 4.0 was better than the 3.5, but the 3.4 ruled them all. We've seen a few top end failures on the 3.5 and from what I can tell there's no conclusion on what's causing them.

I'm just not a fan of 0W20 and 10k mile oci. I know the subject can start a shit storm, but shorter oci and a little thicker oil never hurt anthing especially since oil shears down in weight ovrr the interval. I've known people that ran 5W40 in the 3.4L, it's not like it got great gas mileage anyway.

I change mine every six months on my 18 and this is despite it only have 2600 miles. I'm sure that's enough to trigger some people.

X2 on not a fan of 10k intervals. I do mine every 5k. The oil is black at 5k, i know it may not mean much, but still.

I had a 93 v6 3.0...toyota replaced the head gasket when it was 6 years old with over 50k miles... way out of warranty. Those were the days toyota went far beyond taking care of the customer.

I use to change the 5-30w oil in my 2001 tundra 4.7 with mobil1 synthetic once a year. Did this till the day a sold the truck with 292k miles on it. That truck ran just as good as the day i bought it. Oil looked clean enough after a year to run in my lawn mower.

Got a call back from Toyota today and they didn’t send it to the shop for the test. They are replacing one of the heads on the engine.

Not 100% sure what is going on but they are going to fix it.

    actually depends on driving environs

hi way miles arent as degrading of oil as the many cycles of the bump / grind of commuter driving

rings gi thu different heat ranges while idling / stop & go

    25mph........some 45............seldom more

' blow by ' contaminates the oil

at 10k+ my oil wsnt iced tea brown result predominant hi way driving

same miles icould be dozens to hundreds o cycles fewer stop starts

    on engine / tranmission

the holy grail of oil changes is directly related to the actually driving

    NOT the mileage

    I agree yes.

I live in a metroplitan area and at times the traffic is quite heavy. I idle quite a bit sometimes. Thankfully, i dont drive my taco everyday, as i have a work van during the weekdays.

I always changed thr oil earlier than the manual suggests on all of my vehicles. Its cheap and makes me sleep better at night. I am quite hard on my vehicles too, so thats one of the reasons as well.

Never had an engine ussue just yet,:fingerscrossed:
Except for the POS lemon camaro i had in high school.

Good luck with that buddy. I don't trust Livermore or Dublin Toyota anymore. Took my truck to Dublin Toyota for one of the included service oil changes and they left off the drain plug gasket. Nothing but knuckleheads. At least they are making an effort and you will have it documented for later...

Yeah I don’t trust most dealerships because of shit like that. One Toyota of Oakland was stripping the screws when doing an oil change. Basic shit.

    got the invoice from Dublin

Went to go pick it up last night. Started her up to head home and heard an odd noise.

Left it over night and they changed the alternator today....

ive heard stories of excessive tension on alternators/ water pumps from over tightening belts and it leading to ruined bearings in the parts. they could have over tightened it when assembling the engine
