I have a 2011 DCSB with 140k. Developed a freon leak a few months back. I took it in to a highly recommended shop here in the metro atl area to get it fixed and they tested thought it was the service port leaking, a week later no cold air. Brought it in a second time and they found a small leak around a seal, a week later no cold air. So I brought it in a third time and they have searched it top to bottom and couldn't find any source of a leak in the engine bay area. So they took out the blower motor and blend door actuator to have a look at the evap and he tells me there is some moisture build up but no sign of dye on the evap or the condensation drip line. So he suspects its on the gas side? I haven't smelled anything in the truck when it did have cold air but the freon is almost completely gone in a week so its not exactly a small leak. What was anyone else's experience when their coil starting leaking?

If it was a good shop they would have a leak sniffer. They would have also put it on a vacuum to check for leaks prior to refilling it.
    Find another shop.

FYI: R12=Freon. R134A=Suva. They are Dupont's product names.

Usually evaporator dye will show up in the drain tube and the leak would be significant.

I've never done a tacoma evaporator in 16 years. Looooooooooooooooooooads of compressors and few condensors.

I would take it a proper AC shop, they will find the leak properly.

Well that recommendation wasn’t worth anything. Some dye and the proper sniffer and good ac shop will find it pretty quick.
