you need to get an initial frame check before you get a letter that will OK the under coating, then schedule the work, got mine checked today waiting for a letter to bring in

    good info here.

The tech I talked to told me not to Krown this year. He didn't really have a coherent explanation on why I shouldn't so I probably will anyway

The dealer had my truck only half a day. Hope they didn't cut corners.

I got the notice as well and booked an appointment at the dealer in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. A tech came out and crawled underneath and inspected with a light and said it was immaculate and nothing needed but I could get them to spray if I requested but he advised against it . As a note, I sprayed dripless oil based undercoat into the boxed section when it was new (probably used too much as I pumped it in and the vapors came out all over) plus it doesn't really see winter as we are retired. I would definetly get it Krowned once a year if you drive it in winter and that would take care of any rust problems. Some people like to use Fluid Film as well and do it themselves. You can usually get it in a gallon container on sale at Princess Auto or with aerosol cans if you don't have a compressor. Napa also sells a dripless oil based undercoat in a 20 litre pail for less than $100 in either black or gold colored which is what I buy and use on my vehicles. Hope this helps

a Toyota tech inspected mine and said it was good, I questioned him if I am getting the treatment he says youll get a letter in the mail corresponding to make an appointment for undercoating, I again asked him IF im getting the treatment he said yes but didn't say at what level some frames get completely painted and some get frame plugs and oily junk at the frame welds it wasn't clear which I was to get. even tho these undercoats like Ziebart promote even more rusting im not sure which route im taking, if you refuse the treatment it may void the frame replacement option if it should ever come to it. also im not really in the mood to crawl under the truck every year and apply my own rust protectant, too old for that shit.

I had mind done in Oct of 2019, was away from end if Feb to June 1st no driving for those months. Rust was visible on the bottom of the frame and on the outside. Complained to the dealer, wAste of time. Had called Toyota Canada who had referred me to the dealer, typical runaround. I purchased a product from Amazon, clean off as much rust as you can brush the material on let dry and paint over it. To soon to tell if it's ant good but looks good.

I don't know how good their prep work is but I asked a lot of questions about the process and really didn't get any detailed explaination from the service tech, other than they supposedly try and remove the rust somehow before application, how good they do is up in the air. their attitude is hey your getting a frame rust preventative for free and a loaner what else to you want.

Same here. They Toyota techs I asked very vague about what they will be doing. Allot of hemming and hawing. Whole thing seems sketchy.

Why not have a printout they can hand out to the customer that details EXACTLY what they going to do.

some of my concerns are some of the fittings on the power steering rack where the PS gets pumped into the rack are very crusty and flaky if they get heavy handed around those taking the rust off they could be damaged and leak then they say sorry was damaged on arrival

Tech I dealt with was somewhat informative But still frustrating.
Said they clean the frame and let it completely dry before inspecting “inside & out”. Then they use a pre-treatment chemical that has to completely dry before they apply the rust preventative product.
He didn’t know what those products actually are tho and couldn’t Give me any info or literature on it because they weren’t given anything.
Toyota is handling this horribly from the top down.

I think they should give a detailed step by step and product information along with the letter for this work, a lot of these types of undercoating actually speed up the rusting, butttt if the frame does rust out then your covered(I think) to get a replacement

completely agree. Should have to give us literature including what chemicals are being used.

I still plan on rolling around under there and spraying rust reformer on all visible surface rust before bringing it for complete NHoil treatment.

im going to go forward with the Toyota undercoating im not sure at this time on which one im getting because if I outlive this truck and the frame rots out under their undercoat they owe me a new frame. I rustoleum painted and rust proofed my tool boxes in the bed with CRC heavy duty marine grade stuff rated very highly for protection and long lasting durability. can get the best price at ACE Hardware online, pick up at store deal

My dealer didn’t use an undercoating. Just a thick, waxy goop in certain spots.

Ive used that crc stuff for marine applications but prefer FluidFilm for everything else. My son had his wrangler treated by a Local NHoil dealer And was very happy with the results and how thorough he was with doors, inner fenders, tailgate etc. so for the $200-$250 ill let him do it thoroughly at least once.

Here's what Toyota is "suppose" to do.

Is there a spray or service Toyota will perform? I have a an 07 Tacoma and the frame is in good shape but I would like to do something as a precaution. After seeing some videos online I don't want to have a zeibart underpaying done.

I don’t believe Toyota offers that and I’d probably avoid it if they did.
Depending on where you are located there’s businesses that apply Krown , Fluid Film and as mentioned above NH OiL Undercoating.

Ok thanks. I will have to call around. Is the fluid film or krown a sure thing? I have watched many videos where the zeibart undercoating has made things worse and the frame rots out even quicker. Not to mention no mechanic wants to work on anything with that tar stuff plastered all over.
