Hi everyone! Does anyone know of a car wash place with strong undercarriage jets out by Lloyd Harbor or Cold Spring Harbor? Or one of those coin-op do-it-yourself places? Unfortunately Yelp and Google don't really have a way to screen for this service :)

I have my rusty Taco in Manhattan but travel to Caumsett state park a lot to fish, and am worried about leaving mud/salt on an already rusty frame. Thanks!

EDIT: Felt pretty foolish as I just noticed that this gas station has coin-op hand-held jet sprayers: 4901 Van Dam St, Queens, NY 11101 and is right in Long Island City after getting off the LIE. Drive right by it every time I come back into Manhattan from Caumsett!

so a couple things, sadly if it is already rusting up badly washing any future mud salt will hardly accomplish much as far as slowing the inevitable

also, most coin operated places wont have the undercarriage option, those are typically found on the drive through automated track style car washes

i know finding a hose spigot in the city can be tricky, but in the event you have access.. they do sell long reaching hose attachments that you can use to get the undercarriage.

another thing to consider would be just buying wd40 by the gallon and putting it in a spray pump, having an undercarriage soaked in wd40 would do more as far as prevention than a weekly wash with soap and water

but the main thing would be how rusty is this 1998 frame at this point, if its flaking its toast, its its severe surface rust with some rot spots it very well can be salvaged

Thanks for the reply UURX. The I treated the frame with eastwood internal and external rust treatments last year, so overall it's in decent shape (except for one problem area by the driver's side leaf-spring mount where it needs some welding work and probably a Safe T Cap).

Most of the coin-op DIY places I've been have those extension handles already installed, which is why I thought they might be a good place to go. The only undercarriage wash place I've found in Huntington has super weak misting jets that barely reach the undercarriage on the Tacoma; so I'd much prefer being able to really get in there with an extension wand.

Also, would be interested in anyone's experiences with Sammy's Auto Repair in Hicksville, NY; I'm talking with them about doing the welding work for a Safe T Cap frame fix on the truck. Thanks!

Hey, I’m in Queens and I looked around a lot for someone to patch a section of the frame on my 99. I found this shop called Oskar Garage in Elizabeth, NJ. He doesn’t use caps, he fabricates his own parts and patch panels out of heavy gauge steel and does a full weld all the way around. Hes really a Jeep shop, but he will work on your Tacoma. His prices are extremely reasonable. I dropped my truck there for a repair on the frame behind the gas tank. His shop is right by the Linden NJ Transit station that goes direct to Penn Station, so I took that home. 3 days later my truck was ready to go and he did a great job.

PM me and I’ll give you more details about what I payed and what to expect.

anyone on the island in the market for an steel RCI transmission skid plate??

i recently removed my engine and trans skid plates to have them sand blasted, i then sprayed two coats of some self etching prime and then three coats of high temp bbq paint.... at this point I am considering only putting the engine skid back on so if anyone local is interested in the transmission skid let me know...

i may possibly consider trading both my steel skids for some aluminum skids...

would like 200 for the trans skid plate alone

    anyone anyone....

anyone wanna trade wheels and tires??

currently have trd off road wheels with 255/85r16 KM2 tires (with a fifth matching spare wheel/tire)

    tires have roughly 13k miles

would consider a 265/75r16 wheel tire combo or perhaps a 17" wheel tire combo

    give or take cash
