    Like, so many.
    Definitely more cost effective.

    Sadly, not much.
I would love a RTT for all the reason's mentioned above. But I find the best situation for our family (myself, wife, toddler, puppy), a ground tent works best. On our last trip (10 days camping on oregon coast) we went to a surfspot at least 2 times a day. That would have meant that we would have had to take down and setup up the RTT each day. Also, we need the roof rack for our surfboards.

If cost wasn't an issue, I wouldn't mind having the option, but with my bed platform, canopy, + tent, I am covered for solo trips or family camping.

Thank you everyone for your input! I have found an RTT that is a reasonable price but now we are into problem number 2: what roof racks to you use to fit it over the the cabin and are there major disadvantages in doing so? I have read most pages in RTT but most people mount them onto the bed rack, but the way the vet box sits there it would complicated to fit a system over it on a such short notice. I can get the factory racks but they are rated only at 150lb each in dynamic load, but they could not tell what is its static load capacity. The guy from Tacoma shop said it would be fine for a RTT but didn’t inspire trust. Has anyone used that or everyone just goes with stuff like prinsu and Baja racks - these are expensive and I probably will not be able to get them in time even if willing to pay the price

Major disadvantage: Having it above the roofline would kill your aerodynamics on an already under-powered truck

Westside: yea, that is what I am worried about, but am not sure whether I can figure out a way to put if over the box, without drilling the box. And I don’t want to damage the box as the bastard is expensive as and one day I might have to resell.

The upTopoverland “Bravo” rack will bolt right into your existing roof if you have a double cab. It’s 599.00 $ though. I’m going to move mine to the roof and see how it goes soon.
