    Hi Everyone,

I am new to TacomaWorld. Also just bought my first Tacoma. I am the proud owner of a 2017 Tacoma SR5. I have had my truck about a week. I just got a maintenance message saying: “Check Battery Charging” can someone please give some insight on this issue? Please and Thanks!

Take it to a auto parts store and test the changing system. Either a bad battery or alternator. Probably a bad battery. Not a big deal.

I've seen that message on my 2020 SR5 when I've left the key in the "on" position too long while parked. Not sure it that helps.

Could be bad battery if it's still the factory one. Most oem factory batteries only last 3 years or so.

This will also happen if a battery terminal is loose and if its still the original battery it maybe about time to replace it

Yeah that’s 100% normal my 2020 does the same thing. It’s just letting you know the battery is draining. It’s somewhere in the manual

That’s the same message that comes on when you’ve got a loose terminal too. Shouldn’t be anything worse than a battery going dead and maybe as simple as a loose terminal. Welcome to Tacoma world

Interesting, I have the exact same truck bought new back in 2017 and just this week I've noticed that my cranks are getting longer in the morning. It seems to not be as bad after a short drive. When I get home, turn the truck off and then back on the crank is much smoother. No message yet though, assumed it was the battery. Crazy the OEMs only last around three years..

Maybe we are bad battery buddies?

So before I purchased the Certified Used Taco they had done a oil change, forgot to reset the maintenance codes, and the battery indicator is just a warning once it reaches below a certain voltage level and comes on, just needed it charge up. So far since taking it in it hasn’t happened.

So your battery just needed to be charged? That still sounds like a bad battery to me. Should be replaced.

Cranking longer isn’t a sign of a bad battery. Look into ignition and fuel supply. It starts easier when warmed up. Again, likely fuel mixture when cold.

I just went out to crank it back up an hour ago and my truck is completely dead.. it would seem the battery is done.. I have enough power to when I open the doors and get in, the truck lights up some but then as soon as I crank, all lights turn off and it just clicks.
