Strange stone like growth in truck

anybody know what this is. Kind of like dried mud.

Its 2020, must be a murder dirt dauber.




We called them mud daubers when I was growing up...

Where you from that you ain’t never seen a dirt dauber nest?
It’s full of spiders, you know.

 

We call em "mud-daubers " around these parts -- they only sting if you step or sit on them on them. Even though I would not want them in my vehicle!

these were all over Houston when i was a kid. seemed most houses had a few.

 

I had one get under the timing cover of my 1980 Toyota Corolla and build up a nest. When I started the car, the mud was hard enough to throw the timing belt off and the car would not start.

 

They are funny. All they care about is finding mud. We’re not all that different I guess

 

Ah, mud daubers. Back when I worked in landscaping, we had lengths of galvanized steel pipe that we would use to level off a lime pad before putting a patio over it. We kept them outdoors next to our machine shed and it seemed like there was a new dauber nest or two every time you went to use the darn things.

Earlier this summer I had to pick a nest out of a Stihl auger. The dang things gummed up the exhaust something terrible.
