While the stealership is useless I have resorted to tracking down a Klang. I only noticed the noise in the spring when it became windows down weather and it's mostly audible when hitting a pothokle around 50kmh on a quiet street with curbs for sound reflection. This also mostly noticable with driver's front hitting bumps.

Giving the engine and undercarriage a good inspection the CV into diff is the only loose thing I can find. Attached is a video of the play and it seems it does clang when bumped around. The passenger side is easily half the amount. Is this too much play? Time to ECGs bushing?

Yes that's too much but in my experience driveline components cause vibrations rather than clunks unless they are really broken. I would replace the bushing anyway though since you've found that.

That's about how mine was. I had the ECGS bearing put in and the installer didn't say anything about the old bearing, but who knows.

Well then, time for a 3rd trip to the dealer so i can waste more of my time (we took it for a drive and found nothing, derp, looks normal, derp) before just buying an ecgs kit and fixing it my damn self!

Dealer has finally confirmed my diagnosis. This is excessive play.

They are going to replace the CV axle first then the diff if it persists. (Do f know why they just can't measure the axle). Aparantly this is something that they have seen on T4Rs but not Tacoma's.

The Dealership is just going to throw parts at your truck, instead of finding and fixing the exact problem.

I thought that this was textbook needle bearing failure...

Mine was doing the same thing. Making a metal on metal sound when going over bumps. The dealer figured that the cv was the cause but it was still within spec so did nothing. fast forward a year and some 4x4ing and it has tons of play and the boot is ripped. Taking it in this Tuesday to have them replace it. Toyota told me that it isn't covered under warranty even though it states clearly in the warranty book that it is. Will see what happens. I also bought the ecgs bushing hopping they will pop it in while its off but not holding my breath.

    Jmac, are you Toyota?

Joking aside, I would not think the clanging is normal.
