Anybody know what GL type this oil from the factory is? 75W Toyota Genuine Transfer gear oil LF or equivalent. I dont know if i should use GL-4 or GL-5 for the transfer case.

Toyota doesn't specify, but I went with Redline GL4 - MT90. It doesn't require a GL5 and GL4 is generally safer with soft metals (not sure what is in the xfer case to be honest). GL5 in the diffs though.

Precisely, apparently GL5 eats brass components within the transfer case so GL4 is a better option. Toyota on purpose left out that crucial information so we have to buy the one that they sell at 3 to 4 times the price if you're lucky to find it. Most dealerships don't even know what you're talking about when you ask them about it...

A buddy that owns his independent garage claims your pretty much stuck having to use the toyota 75w transfer case fluid, saying its specially formulated for these gen3 tacos unlike the older tacoma and tundras that can use 75w-90w gl-5. Its the reason toyota doesn't specify gl-4 or gl-5.
