Nothing wrong with the factory plastic one. I can’t keep my aluminum one from leaking after this past oil change. Despite changing the filter and o rings three times this past week...It keeps leaking. Piece of junk. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it...

I went to the dealership and bought it, it was aluminum, kinda hard to come by these days because dealerships get plastic parts too now

I agree. The OEM plastic is not bad. Especially if you torque it to proper spec.

Aftermarket aluminum or factory aluminum? The aftermarket ones are trash.

OEM housing and filters.. I can thread it by hand until it stops when it hits the block. The tolerance is too loose on the threads and o ring groove.

My drain plug doesn't even screw all the way in to drain let alone get stuck in the filter housing.

That’s odd. Never had that with an oem.

Motive x tools make a drain plug that you screw in that has a hose to go to your drain pan. That’s what I use along with a fumoto valve on the pan drain with a hose. No mess at all. I don’t know how to add a link but they seem to come up if you do a google search.

Some push in as with the OEM filter, and some screw in.

Toyota OEM filters don't have endcaps on the filter element. The OEM 2nd gen filters are also like this if you cut open the metal canister. Most aftermarket filters (including Densos) don't have this technology.

I should’ve gotten this. I just went with the housing socket. I’ll just get some tubing to fit the drain tool.

Can you get a regular style oil filter in a can for third gen Tacoma’s? Asking for a friend who thinks this is nonsense....
