The only reason to get the sport is if you need the hood scoop and don’t want to pay for the pro.

if you don’t plan to off-road and like the look it will work.

For what you describe the trd pro would be overkill.

trd off road comes with the best of both worlds but with no scoop. I’d look at them...you lose the scoop and get other features free like the locker etc.

Agree on the locker. I look at it this way, i wont take my 50k truck where the locker is needed.

Now if i had a dedicated bush rig then that would be a different story. Wish i could have kept my ranger... she would have made a great bush truck.

Except that OP said he likes the scoop and doesn't feel the OR features are worth it, since he said off roading wasn't high on his list of priorities.

Strictly speak your example is exactly what the locker is used for. Let's say one rear tire may be spinning on rocks, and thus no motion. Lock up, and TOGETHER the locked axle sends power through the other tire as well, and you MAY be able to propel you forward, with help from the front wheels too.

Any time a rear tire lifts off the ground or spins, locking the rear then sends torque to the other tire that may be able to grab traction.

That's a good looking truck! Looks stealthy with the black wheels.

I had been contemplating the Nittos for awhile and decided to bit the bullet and give them a try. I've always had good luck with BFG, so I came pretty close to going with the KO2s. The Nittos were a little lighter weight, if I remember correctly, and that played a part in my decision.

This is problematic. Everyone knows that Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the universe into being and that he made the Pleiades as a self portrait constellation. He is Subaru.

Yep, and the Sport's LSD feature has similar abilities as a locker but using different technology:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Futg55pyfqU

I don't have the pics but I traversed some rocky terrain last hunting season where my rear tires were off the ground. The LSD kicked in and it was pretty uneventful.

I'm pretty sure Tonered tested his Sport's LSD on a diagonal angle and it pulled just fine.

As for the OR's locker feature it does have its place. Just keep in mind like other lockers It can get you in trouble real fast if both rear tires lose traction at the same time while traversing a slippery side hill or in soft terrain like sand. Like LSD know when to turn the locker off and/or use tire chains, aggressive tires and carry traction boards.

The Off Road has the same Simulated LSD as the Sport so you can thankfully save the Locker for when you really need it.

I think the OR has a few features that overlap the rear locking ability, or simulated LSD. For the most part traction control itself should brake each wheel sending a bit of power to the other. MTS will give you manual control over how much slippage you want on all 4, then finally the fully locked rear is well...a fully locked rear. IMO MTS works great and is nice to have if you ever find yourself not wanting to use crawl, don't need to be locked, but can't afford any bit of slippage before it gets sketchy.

The lack of a scoop on the OR was a dealbreaker for me.

Or worth it as in not wanting to pay a premium for the Pro and not wanting to give up the better on road manners of the Sport for the OR (that TW seems to think is the only truck anyone should ever buy). He also said he likes the aesthetics of the Sport and Pro. Why sacrifice the things he likes for features he will likely never use? Oh wait, because TW said so.:deadhorse:

This is my exact situation. I priced out a Premium Sport (2020 model) on Toyota's site and it came to $46k and some change. When it comes closer to time to order I'm going to first do a search and see what's out there in Army Green for a 2020 Pro before I put in my order for a 2021 Sport.

Yes. I have tested it with both Auto LSD, 4Hi, and 4Lo. The TRAC system gets me going with no drama.

OK OP. Here's my 0.02 from a guy that went from a Sport to a Pro. The Sport while it may handle better, you will really tell no difference in actual day to day driving. Where you will tell a difference is in the ride quality. The Pro rides so much better. I'm in my mid 50's and the Sport was starting to get on my nerves. It magnified every speed bump, man and pot hole. Some complain here about the Pro price. I got my AG Pro for about 8% below MSRP. So that put the price just a tick over 44K for a auto. Spec out a comparable equipped Sport and you'll be under that. But no where near the 7K as some have suggested. And as far as needing or not needing the off road equipment. I've had my Pro for 6 months now. I engaged the 4X4 once when I 1st got the truck to make sure it worked. Never engaged the rear locker or crawl control. But they're there if I need them.
I bought it because it was the truck I wanted. Not necessarily the truck I needed.

I will 2nd that. Same for me, from a '18 Sport to a '19 PRO, the ride quality is noticeably cushier. Also same in that I didn't need the features, I wanted them.

The badging on the PRO and the non-functional scoop on the Sport is ugly, IMO. My 2016 TRD OR has been slowly upgraded and looks 10 times better than either with similar or better features, that is, if you like the cleaner look...
