POLL: MOLLE RACKS

I'm getting close to having my first 2 designs for interior MOLLE racks complete through fabrication. They are currently getting powder coated. I will be designing others for interior and the bed, as well as, other parts. Eventually I will have a website to sell these, but for now, just wanted to post some photos to get your thoughts on them. I'll post more once I get them back from paint and installed. Products will be under the label of DESMO Overland. It's the first 5 letters of my last name, and is also a medical term meaning: ligament, adhesion, to connect, so it kind of made sense because you connect things to the MOLLE system. Let me know what you think. oh, the long one is a headliner rack for back seat of a Gen 3 double cab, no sunroof. the small square one mounts to the back side of the center console. Yeah, I looked at a bunch and got some inspiration from multiple designs from different photos I found online. There are quite a few that look similar. I’ve seen your stuff too, nice work/parts

 

If you can make one for DCs with a sunroof, you would probably get a lot of interest from folks who have been waiting for prototypes from other makers to make it into production...

Not much you can do to make them different, at the end of the day, molle racks are plate with some holes in them. But if you think they are too similar then I can make some design changes. Don’t want any bad relationships with others that make similar items.

 

Nice work but I can't abide products with massive logos on them. Pay me if I'm going to advertise for you.

OK. Then it doesn't need to be there. It would save time/money to not have to cut it out.

I get that, first thing after buying truck is taking dealer license plate frame and tailgate sticker off. I bought a Toyota, not a Toyota dealership. However, this would be a molle rack built by me. Much like your truck from Toyota. If the molle rack was a DESMO molle rack and sold at Walmart and had a Walmart sticker on it when you bought it, that would be the same principle. Remove the Walmart sticker. Do you remove the Apple from your iPhone? The swoosh from your Nike’s? Do you sand off the sidewalks of your tires to remove the Michelin Logo? Just saying. If you have a gen 3, there is a pretty big logo stamped into the tailgate. Do you take credit?

 

I think the logo would become less noticeable when you put a molle bag over it....

 

I get what you're saying... but Demso doesn't quite have the street cred of Nike, Apple or even Walmart. As soon as you sacrifice looks to include your logo, be ready for people to pass it over. If you make a good product from the start, you'll find that word of mouth is far more effective than branding. Consumers are also lazy. Even if your logo is front and center, a consumer will still not look it up. You'd be better off including a QR code on it... not to mention, this is inside the cab and the logo is likely to be covered by molle... why bother to include it? No one will see it, and the person that will, already bought it.

 

I understand some people don't like logos, but at some point you have to have them for name recognition for people that will want a product. Nike, Apple, etc didn't have street cred either when they first started, but to have an iphone without the apple or a pair of nikes without the swoosh, whats the point? DV8 and FabFour have logos and people buy that up like candy. With the street cred and name recognition, why does CocaCola still have commercials? Everyone in the world has heard of and probably drank a Coke. I guess its just part of business. thanks for the comments.
