Hey Guys, need some thoughts on what this might be.
2012 Tacoma V6 with aftermarket suspension and 275-65-R16 tires (170'000km)

I'm getting a single solid clunk sound after my truck sits for few hours on a bit of a incline or seems to also happen on a decline.
Sounds like its coming from the lower front area.
Only will clunk when reversing and firmly bumping the brakes. I can't tell if turning the wheel while backing up has any effect or not. I can feel it in the pedals and steering wheel.
I had my forward lower left A-Arm replaced a few months ago but it all seems pretty solid.

wont happen again until my truck sits again for a bit. I was thinking sticky brake piston? or low fluid level on transmission or transfer case?
transmission fluid was just serviced a year ago and haven't gone crazy with the mileage

let me know what you think?? would love to get some ideas!
    Cheers

This clunk has driven me crazy. I’ve had it since new; dealer can’t replicate.

I also feel it on the first big bump if I haven’t replicated with brakes

Are the wheels turned when it does it?
My 05 used to clunk once in reverse with wheels turned.
Clunk stopped when they replaced Lower bushing when doing frame

I thought at first it was when turning my steering wheel I would hear the clunk. but if i just hold the wheel straight and back down my driveway in reverse and bump the brakes i can replicate it every time. (only if the truck has sat for a while)
and as rmorse stated - if i don't replicate it with the brakes i usually feel it when rolling off the curbside bump when back out of the driveway.

which bushing are you referring to? The A-Arm bushing?

Start by checking torque specs. I had a really bad clunk that went away after tightening the bolts that connect spindle to LCA

Check the torque of the LCA cam bolts. 100 ft lbs if I recall correctly.

How long has the suspension been on the truck? And what is it? The recent LCA work leads me to look in that direction, but it could be coincidence.

just had the L/H lower control arm replaced - would it not come with new bushings?

I also got them to put in new caster/cam bolt as the old one didn't have grease nipples.

I put a couple wrenches on the cam bolts to see what they felt like And the LCA back cam bolt was easy to move around. I could see the alignment changing as I moved it around. Obviously not how it should be.
Brought it back to the shop who installed the LCA and they found the wrong size bolt was used. So this will likely solve my clunking issue as I think it was settling over time with the bolt that was to small and then clunking When I’d reverse outta the driveway.
    thanks for the help!
