Seems like an over generalization, but unfortunately that probably is true for most Americans.

    Damn right!!!

Actually it gets saved and invested. My wife and I are two major cheapasses. I did an SAS for under 5k as a target because I didnt want to spend the money on one LOL!! COVID actually taught us a few things, one of them is to crack the pocket book open slightly further and enjoy life a bit more.

I only have 90 days of company provided housing so I need it to tank within 45days when I'm ready to buy hahaha!!

With this bubble I MIGHT actually come out with some equity from my current place.

Well it kinda is but yall are targets of shiny new expensive things where single dad isn't. And I do agree most Americans from the poor to the wealthy blow their money on shit to "keep up with the Joneses" too much. Power of the credit and debt.

The way that I look at it, at least the way we operate is, you can can have expensive taste in a few areas but not ALL areas. So we like to travel and we have a nice house. But we pay cash for reasonable cars (wife's car is a 16 year old T4R) and we rarely if ever eat out. Just examples, but the point is, spend money, if you can afford it, on the things/experiences you value, and be frugal in all other areas of life.

this year has been a big time reality check for us. I lost my job Jan 03 and didn’t find work again until July 27. Luckily we had a good tax return, stimulus money, and no childcare to pay for. She also worked her ass off while being pregnant to make sure our bills got paid.

Probably not I know quite a few people that are not like that at all. It's what I grew up around so I'm use to those types. You'd fit right in with my family.

Wives kick ass!! Yea same here. I quit my job on 11/1 to start a safety consulting biz, because I got burnt out and hated my old job. My wife had steady income and we saved a bunch, I got my LLC granted the day they shut everything down here for COVID and my wifes pay was cut and was in rounds of layoffs. This job plopped in my lap from a former colleague and here I am, 3 days into a job at a company that I never thought I would work for, moving to a state I never thought I would live in. Excited for the change!!!

we aren’t married. Just gotta throw that out there for those who don’t know. I want a court house wedding and she wants the full fledged all out wedding. Apparently there is no compromise.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I'm the same way just different areas. I do know that kicking some very bad habits and working on a couple others have really opened up some more cash that I use to invest in mine and my daughters future.
