Hi there. I'm trying to slowly stamp out the chrome on my 2012 SR5 and update the grill (pic attached). The grill surround is chrome, and I want to put a Nautical Blue grill surround to match my truck, or even black to match the grill. I just want the chrome gone. I've searched the threads, and just come up with painting grills, or info on 3rd gens.

I attached a diagram of a grill surround part an online Toyota dealer is selling that is labeled as being painted "dark blue" and for a 2012 Tacoma, but they emailed that "we do not have an exact photo of the requested part number available, so we cannot verify that it is what you are in need of".

So two questions: 1. how did other people replace their chrome grill surround without painting? and 2. will a 2012 TRD Pro grill fit once I get the surround swapped (and then the chrome emblem will be what drives me nuts)?

thanks in advance! (BTW I clicked on the option to put thumbnails, but the pics still look huge on my end...sorry in advance for that one.)

I put a Sport grill on my '13. It came complete with the insert.

That would be perfect, actually. Do you remember where you got it?

You’ll sometimes see a 2012-2015 Sport or Base model grille pop up in the classifieds section but it’s rare. Even more rare it’s a Nautical Blue. If you find one of those for a cheap price, it’s work picking up then getting it professionally painted. Otherwise, the dealership or an online Toyota parts store such as McGeorge would be the only proper way to go. I say “proper” because you would likely fuss with an off-brand replica. Stay with OEM and save yourself the headache. And yes, the 2015 TRD Pro grille fits right into the outer shell no matter the color.

I got mine at the local Toyota dealership.
It came painted to match my truck. Also came with the emblem.

Thanks for both of your responses. Sounds like OEM is the way to go. So just to be sure I'm clear, it sounds as if the whole 2015 TRD Pro surround/shell (as well as grill) will also fit my 2012 SR5? I'm now debating getting the prepainted 2015 surround in black from Toyota, since they didn't make Nautical Blue in 2015, and yes, I want that retro TOYOTA instead of the emblem. I think it would look fine, just give the appearance of a much bigger grill? Thx.

Yes you got that right. All 2012-2015 grilles are interchangeable. So you can purchase a TRD Pro grille and get the surround painted to match. I believe if you purchase that grille brand new, the surround comes painted but only in Super White, Black or Inferno.
