    I don't judge.

I talk to folks half way across the country using satellites and hand held radios exchanging 2 letters and 2 numbers, for fun.

I embrace the nerd. New graphics cards are neat, but I'm more excited that I got the international space station back.

Yeah, I think I bought mine 3-4 years ago. Always meant to get another one but at this point I'll probably just wait and get two better ones when the time comes.

Thats actually one of the upper limit ones I've been looking at. It seems both that monitor and this guy have a cult following with not many down sides. I guess with this one the only real drawback is 1.2 vs 1.4 display port, but a lot of reviewers who have this as a secondary monitor to their premium monitor say the only time you see a real difference with that is higher rated HDR monitors with a wider available color spectrum, and that the other qualities make up for it

Full disclosure they are less than like 400nit peak brightness so HDR isn't even real HDR with them. Moot point UNLESS you're buying specifically for HDR in which case you'll need to be looking much higher up in price unfortunately. http://rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b

I've turned HDR on a couple of times and was meh. I just leave it off. The IPS display LG uses is the true selling point.

The PIXIO PX7 Prime is another competitor in this space, but it's more expensive for less gaming-related features.

That's another pretty "pure" gaming monitor. Read third party reviews. Bad blacks and terrible lighting uniformity. Good pixel reaction times and anti-ghosting though making it a great gaming panel.

Anything under HDR 600 is pure garbage especially since Windows doesn't handle HDR well yet.

Don't get DP 1.2, the data rated won't be high enough to preserve full colour, 1440P, and 144/165hz. You'll end up losing one of them. Heck even 1.4 can't truly handle anything past that except the new VESA compression standard solved that issue.

I prefer VA over IPS especially now that the ghosting issues are gone. Come at me bro! LOL. Though seriously lighting evenness and contrast is a lot better on VA panels.

We can probably both recommend people stick away from TN panels unless they want something that has the colour gamut of a 2001 panel.

LOL. One thing I'll say though is I find it really funny how many non-20 series owners actually make these sort of comments. I'm not at all salty about the 30-series if it's as good as nVidia claims because I got my three-ish years out of my top end card and I'm ready to upgrade. Anyone who could afford, and I mean actually afford not throw it on credit, a 2080Ti isn't going to cry looking at 30-series pricing.

Colors > Black Levels in gaming IMO.

The panel does not have any issues with lighting uniformity, only black uniformity, but that's an IPS technology thing. Not a problem with the panel. I've not had any issues with mine.

Unless you're spending all of your time watching movies and playing Alien Isolation, the color accuracy and saturation in an IPS monitor is more pleasing to MY eyes.

VAs with quantum dot tech do have accurate, vibrant, colours though. I think you're stuck on VAs in the past, not the newer panels. In fact the newest panels have zero weaknesses really. They might be ever so much slower than IPS, not even to the point someone could notice as in under 1ms difference in pixel response, but really there is no reason to pick one tech or the other anymore.

You don't have to overdrive the bejeebers out of VAs anymore to get them to act like an IPS. VAs now offer better blacks and identical, if not better with a Quantum film layer, colours than an IPS panel.

Check out a G7 if your ever around one. I mean it's cutting edge VA tech but it's been a progression for Samsung. Your eyes won't complain.

Actually funny side story. Want to know what monitor is best for gaming? CRT. Seriously. Even the best panels of 2020, no matter the underlying construction technology, can't keep up with the zero input lag of a CRT. I'm kind of surprised no one has started making a few one off CRTs just for people who want the bragging rights of zero input lag lol.

I also don't hate IPS tech lol. I do use a LG double ultra wide for work so I can have the same amount if desktop space as two 27" monitors in one package. Funny story, thank god those monitors are curved. They're so wide that without a curve you would actually have colour distortion simply from the width of the panel.
