derp it :D no dont do that

If it were mine, I would want some sort of guide rod that deploys from inside / stowed, to outside when you open the door, or manually. something like a roller on a stick. Not sure where to get something like that though. I would think any coating you apply to the door edge would get worn away very quickly.

not necessarily these below, but this idea, modified to suit your needs

edit...Need to remove the operator error from the equation. It needs to be idiot-proof. If it is too difficult / pita to deploy, they will not do it and trash your truck (unless the driver has a vested interest in the truck)

Are you looking for a solution that you can get commercially or something more along the lines of DIY? Initially, I was thinking something along the lines of 2 to 3 ft of black iron pipe with a floor flush fitting mounted to the door sill encapsulated with a larger diameter PVC pipe that acts as a roller to keep the hose stood off from the door frame. Or you could do something along the lines of one of these and build a standoff from the side of the door.

I used to carry a 28' ladder like that when I did cable work. It was heavy at first, but got used to it. I couldn't imagine not carrying it on my shoulder, really.
